Parking Lots - Question

Greetings!

I’m getting back into editing after a while off… I noticed a few Waze generated map problems of Missing Parking Lot Places. I just want to confirm what the best practice is for these. Should I be using PLRs for the major arteries in the lot or is creating an area the best practice now? I know the areas weren’t working at one point and the recommendation was to not use them. Here is an example: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-72.07921&lat=41.54890&s=104046039&zoom=5&mapProblem=2%2F2570135

Thanks!

I believe I found the answer, but please let me know if I am incorrect. From the CT Wazeopedia, it states to use PLAs and use the US Guidelines found here: https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Places/Parking_lot

I will work on updating some of the auto generated map problems in my area. Please let me know if I am incorrect or if you see any concerns.

Thanks!

Ok. So I’ve read the Wazeopedia page on Parking Lots, but I have two questions:

  1. Should I go ahead and raise the lock level once I create a PLA? Or do I wait for it to get published and ensure it is all set before I raise the lock level to 3?

  2. Naming - Say you have a Walmart that has 3 distinct lots. How do I name these? Do I just call all three Parking - Walmart? Do I leave the names blank?

Take this example https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-72.16000&lat=41.37293&s=104062423&zoom=7 This is a movie theater. I would create 3, possibly 4, distinct PLAs for this business. How should they be named?

Thanks for the assistance. I just want to do this right.

To answer the questions you’ve asked -

  1. PLAs and PLRs are distinctly different entities. PLA’s are essentially destination place area. In order to get to a PLA, you have to have a PLR which gets there from the main roads. PLRs don’t always have to have associated PLAs (for now - though Waze is starting the push to have us make sure there is one). BUT to be useful PLAs should probably at least have one PLR feeding and exiting it.
  2. Probably best to put the “stop point” of a PLA on the associated PLR.
  3. You can only raise a lock to your current editor level. As a R1 editor you can’t lock it to 3.
  4. Places with multiple lots - it makes sense to map them separately if they serve different purposes, or entrances, or businesses such as in a mall. Or if one is more expensive than the other, or theres a reason somebody would want to park at one even if it’s not the closest. If it’s three lots with no real differentiation other than that they’re overflow, that lead to a single entrance at a single business, you may just want to make it a single lot.
  5. If you’re naming multiple lots at a single business, you can use a phrase which would be distinguishing to a given driver. You’d have to figure out for yourself what that would be.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information - it is helpful. AndyPoms and I also sent a few PMs back and forth and he gave me some good guidance as well. Thank you both for your assistance!
