This is the permalink of the area: https://goo.gl/h86rQr

Sorry I missed your message earlier today. (I was at work)

The URL you’ve given is a link to the LiveMap. Permalinks are links for the editor at https://www.waze.com/editor

This video shows how to create one:

Also what do you need exactly, access to the area for editing? or the unlock of a locked segment or venue?

If you have driven around Malé with Waze open on this username you should have access to edit already.

I have access to edit now and made a couple of them. The most important of which is https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=73.50831&lat=4.17485&s=70499607&zoom=4&segments=337785368.

Its a core road to navigate that section of the city and since its very recent, doesnt exist on most maps. There have been multiple oneway changes and frequent road closures due to a lot of focus on renewing the roads by our government so I was hoping to keep updating the state of the roads as we go along.

If I understand correctly, edits need to be approved by a level 2 person correct? So I guess that is what I need most.

Edits to places are subject to validation, edits to segments are not.

Meaning:
You edit a place: The change will be up for validation and should be live on the map as soon as it’s approved, or within 24h.

You edit/create a segment: There is no validation needed, the segment or changes will only appear on the app when this page: https://status.waze.com/ displays that the map tiles were updated to include the latest changes from the Waze Map Editor for the INTL (International) map.
The latest message for INTL is that the “INTL map tiles were successfully updated to: August 9, 2017 12:00 UTC” which means that the Waze App map currently contains all edits up to August 9. Since you created this segment on August 10th it’s not on the App yet, but it should be at the next update.

Side note: You’ve setup the arrows to be green to leave from the segment only.
If you click on the connected segments around: here and here. You haven’t enabled the arrow to enter the segment. So currently proper routing cannot work because those arrows are still marked as forbidden.

You should also click on the segment you created and add naming information in the left panel menu of the segment (Street name, city name) as it’s currently highlighted in red in the WME because those parameters are missing.

A question:

I’ve noticed that editors from years ago put all the junctions on Majeedhee Magu and Ameenee Magu with U-turns possible:

Doing that is the standard norm in India for Waze, but as far as I know they are the only country that do it.

Everywhere else in the world we usually don’t enable U-turns at every single junction.
To give you an example in Switzerland we only enable it when it’s legal AND that it’s possible to do for the driver in a non-dangerous way which doesn’t require him to use the Rear gear and make manœuvres to turn around…

What do you think about those U-turns for Malé? Should they stay enabled and Waze could tell drivers tu do a 180° turn anywhere or should they be disabled and Waze will then try to tell people to go around blocks and streets in order to turn around.

I’ve fixed up the issues you’ve mentioned regarding the segment and will make sure to keep that in mind for future edits

Regarding the U-Turns, the regulations are pretty lax and u turns at every junctions are technically allowed, but with the increasingly worse traffic conditions, it might be best to set it to go around than take uturns. Currently in daily practice, its unlikely cars take uturns anyway unless its offpeak hours like after midnight. I would love to set this up to encourage best practices even if its not in local law at the moment.

From reading the guides, it appears I should stick to editing roads and segments for now. After I’m more practiced, would really like to start adding in house names and updating places since that is something drivers have been requesting from a map for a long time.

Ok cool, don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions

Hey, I finally see the updated roads in the waze app, but only from my account. None of my drivers have the updated map so was wondering how that worked. Is there a step the drivers need to make so that theirs update aswell?

The map should update around the same time for everyone. You can tell them to try to completely close Waze (even background processes) and to re-open the app while making sure they are connected to the Internet.

If that still doesn’t work to trigger an map update let me know.

Ive tried clearing app drawer, closing waze from power button and forced closed it without success. Reinstalling seemed to have worked though xD

Edit: Relogging from app without uninstall didnt work too.

Also, I notice that the live map is also unupdated. https://www.waze.com/livemap.

Besides re-installing you can also try these steps:

For Android:

  • In the address search bar type “2##2” and hit the search button to enter Debug Mode
  • In the App Settings go to –> Display & Map –> Data Transfer –> Refresh map of my area

For iOS:

  • In the address search bar type “2##2” and hit the search button to enter Debug Mode
  • In the App Settings go to –> Display & Map –> Refresh map of my area

The Livemap has been buggy lately worlwide, we don’t know when it will be fixed

Debug mode worked  thanks.

Will proceed with further edits.
