Recently I have been sorting out an issue with the point to point (p2p) camera system on the Bruce Highway in Qld and corrections were made to the placement of the cameras by ituajr.
The wiki seems to be unclear, as in it does not mention, how the p2p camera system is meant to warn drivers, or what displays there will be.
Are there any editors who would be able to assist in filling in the picture on the p2p camera system and how waze works?
Perhaps also updating the wiki as well would be helpful.
There is a Point to Point / Average Speed camera installed on PeninsulaLink in Victoria.
This segment is one end of the system. This is the end segment. The average speed limit is also set on the carriageway in the opposite direction, between the same overpasses.
As you can see, there is a lot of confusion, with many stray cameras reported.
When I drove down this way a few months back, on approach the app firstly displays a visual warning, and an audible one if you are over the limit, advising of the average speed zone coming up.
While you are in the average speed camera zone, the app displays a pale blue bar on the left (in the same location as the Traffic Jam bar), advising of your progress through the zone.
I am not sure what happens if you speed through the entire zone, but while I was driving on it, the bar was a pale blue colour. There were times when I was over the actual limit, but my average speed stayed under. The display of the bar did not change when I went over the limit momentarily.
This certainly does help and thank you. I will want to test this explanation for myself on one of our only three p2p’s that we have in SE Qld.
I am attempting to set up a p2p that is currently not active. And yes, plenty of level 1 editors have attempted to place speed cameras around where the p2p cameras would be.
If I can confirm your explanation for how the system works, then I think your explanation should be added to the wiki for how point 2 point speed cameras work.
This does not mean that I doubt your explanation, it is just that I have asked a level four editor about how waze displays the p2p system, and he said the wiki is silent on the matter and was unsure.
So would like to go for a test drive myself after setting up one myself.
I thought we had found them but I couldn’t find a ref. Maybe I was mis-remembering from another forum.
If I can’t find them, I will take my GPS logger down next week and record a trace to help me cross reference the points. Too bad street view hasn’t been updated for 2 years (and probably won’t be for another 5.)

What I meant by more assistance is to either review my correspondence with the reporter and see if I am missing anything, or if there is something wrong with the area in question.
The reporter says their phone is a Samsung S5. The southbound direction works fine, it is the Northbound direction that they are having issues with.
The Northbound zone starts at Johnstone Road, so it is positioned correctly. There are warning signs saying you are entering a speed camera zone and to check your speed and that for the next 16 km you will be in a speed camera zone.
I was travelling the Northbound sections during the morning each day, did not have battery saver mode on so the screen did not dim and the phone was on charge.
I have posed this question to him now. If he is an editor. And also asked him about screen dimming, setting navigation etc.
I do recall quite a few months, or even a year or so ago one of the beta updates going out saying that Android Auto has a few issues with Samsung for routing issues and Waze HQ was trying to fix it. I recall it was with specific types of Samsung phones, but not all Samsung phones. I am wondering if this is a legacy issue. We have recently set this p2p and now it has cropped up.
All I can add further about my Northbound trip is that I was under the 110 kph speed limit the entire time, including entering the zone and I got the countdown warning, had the vertical bar the entire time and the vertical bar disappeared when I left the zone.
If P2P cameras replace onsite speed cameras then that’s a great idea. There are times, especially on QLD outback roads where you need to go over the speed limit to overtake (think about a three dog road train). I was in the UK last April and saw P2P cameras about 2 kms apart on their main roads. They were painted bright yellow and were very hard to miss. Drivers kept to the speed limit and traffic flowed quite well.
In NSW on the Hume the P2P cameras are a long way apart (20k or more) and I think are there mainly to catch out the truckies.
