Update: Go ahead and use Level for referring to user level (aka rank) in requests.
Per the forum posting guidelines, you need to indicate your editor rank in your request. The version of the editor released today allows us to keep the segment locked, so higher-ranking editors will downgrade the lock to your rank.
Is this required if your signature includes your rank?
Keep in mind that some people use Tapatalk on mobile devices or tablets which means that your sig is not displayed with the post. They have to look at your user profile to see your sig, so rather add the rank(s) as requested.
From these devices you can at least lower rank or unlock the segments highlighted from a Permalink, even though you can’t really edit properly, but it allows editors to at least assist anywhere without having to be at a PC.

Really tapatalk and permalinks from the editor? That’s going to be a very small portion of the userbase. I don’t even bother with the editor when not on my PC. I peruse the forums on tapatalk but I don’t bother with the unlock forum.
For clarification purposes, in the subject line when posting an unlock request… Should the “Lock Rank” be the one that the road is currently set to OR should it the one you are requesting it set to?
For example: If the road is rank 5 locked, and I am a rank 3, should it read. Rank 5: Main St - Pittsburgh, PA (Turning Restrictions) OR should it be Rank 3: Main St - Pittsburgh, PA ( Turning Restrictions)?
It would make sense to ask for the editor rank needed, not what you can already do. Otherwise, there would be no need to put in your editor rank if it’s a problem you can fix yourself.
I agree. This came up for discussion on another post so I figured I’d bring some attention to it here.
While yes, you shall indicate your editor rank in your request I don’t believe that means in the subject. If you look at the rest of the posts on there is seems to be common practice to post the “Lock Rank” to which the road is locked in the subject, then in the description they post what lock rank it should be set to. Flagging it this way will make sure someone who can unlock rank 5 doesn’t skip over your post since there are a lot more rank 2’s & 3’s who could assist you if this was an issue that could be resolved by a rank 2. Make sense? Idk thats my take on the posting guidelines.
The last post reflects both the common sense and the apparent established practice. It never made sense to me why I should post my rank in the request (and I did take it to mean in the subject), yet I continued doing so, and am probably the only one.
Can we get a ruling on the field and perhaps the guidelines fixed to be more explicit?
Posting MY rank seems even less useful now that I realized that in 99.9% of the cases (really, 100% in my experience, but I am making an allowances) the higher-rank editor responding to our request fixes the issue him or herself rather than downgrading the lock. This practice is reflected in the renaming of the board from “Unlock requests” to “Unlock and update request”.
I assume you need to me to state my Rank in the body of the email so you know if you can simply lower the lock levels and allow me (the requestor) to fix it (delegating the repair task to the requesting editor) or if the unlocking editor should do the edits and updates themselves and then re-lock it immediately (not delegate task).
As said, your rank doesn’t need to be in the subject. The rank there should be the lock level and MGODLEW gave a good explanation of why that’s useful. To add to it, it makes it so all of the lower level editors don’t need to open up dozens of level 5 lock requests trying to find one that is low enough level for them to handle.
By including your rank in the body of the message, it allows editors to lower the lock so you can do the edit. Depending on the problem, the editor may fix it themselves or they may lower the lock so you can fix it. Generally, you’ll find that if it’s a simple fix, they’ll do it so that it’s done and out of the way. But if it’s a fix that requires local knowledge or testing, they’ll probably lower the lock so you can work on it. And that also varies from editor to editor. I’ve had editors lower an interstate lock for me when I was level 1 or 2 (I forget which) so I could fix something, so it does happen even on easy fixes.

I should have hyperlinked Rank in Cones in WME. Editor’s rank in cones is a WME thing.

Should we put the lock level of the road in the subject, and our current editing level in the message, or the other way around?
level of road seems to be in common use. If that is the consensus, can this topic be removed and replaced with one giving instructions newbies can follow consistently and be understood?

The current lock rank of the road you’re requesting should be in the subject of the post. This way, reviewing editors can easily screen what they can or cannot respond to based on their own rank.
Within the post message itself, you should also include your editing rank so the reviewing editor can figure out both how to respond and what rank to lower the locks to if he/she determines that is an appropriate way to respond.
Mentions of your editing rank in your signature are not sufficient because those of us on mobile devices using Tapatalk cannot see them; Tapatalk is what enables many of us to respond so quickly many times, so IMnsHO, a posting protocol that is friendly to Tapatalk is important.

I agree with Volodu, especially if you aren’t a frequent poster, it helps to have the complete instructions listed in the forum rules.
I am retiring this topic as Waze has pretty much fully changed the UI and references to Rank to now read Level, and Level is changed to be Elevation in the editor. We can go “back” to using Level for unlock and update requests.
