Proposal for an AI feature in Waze to identify safe and no-passing zones

I would like to suggest an AI-based feature that could help save lives on the road. The proposal is for Waze to use AI to automatically identify and alert drivers about safe overtaking zones and stretches where overtaking is prohibited.

The AI could combine various data sources, such as: existing map markings, traffic patterns, recurring accident records, average road speed, road type identification, information provided by road concessionaires for safe updates, user contributions indicating approximate stretches of dual carriageways, and indicators of locations where fatal accidents have occurred, which often feature crosses or small memorials placed by families.

With this, the system would generate simple and direct warnings for the driver, both when overtaking is permitted and when it represents a risk.

Many highway accidents happen precisely because of a lack of perception or proper signaling. An intelligent alert could make a big difference, especially on roads with low visibility or poor signage.

I would like to know if there is already any initiative related to this topic, if it is technically feasible to integrate AI into Waze in this way, and how we, as a community, can collaborate to develop this idea.

I appreciate any guidance or feedback from the community.

Good afternoon, @DNAProsperity

It’s always great to have new ideas for potential improvements to the Waze app.
Please submit your proposal to the Waze Suggestion Box, so other editors can vote and perhaps, depending on feasibility, it can be accepted in the future.
After creating the suggestion, share the link here so other editors can review and vote.

Best regards.

Alerts for zones with frequent accidents and dangerous intersections already exist.
Using AI to provide alerts and take road markings into account would require mapping roads with solid and dashed lines, which doesn’t seem feasible to do in WME at the moment.
