Not having used the new suncity highway, I chose waze instead of google maps to take me from Johannesburg to Sun City, and almost destroyed my car thanks to Waze’s “shortcut”. The R104 is not slightly unpaved or gravel, it is completely closed with mud. If I was smarter I would’ve just turned around for a reroute but I didn’t anticipate 20 minutes of mud road. Even if this road did exist I cannot fathom how it could be faster or safe in any way compared to the adjacent national highway. Firstly I cannot report a road closure on the road I was already on, secondly I can’t report the road closure from a distance once I arrived at my destination, thirdly my year old waze account isn’t allowed to upload videos of this disastrous route selection because I’m a “new user” to waze forums. I already selected NO unpaved roads on my route preferences, and google maps did not try to make me go this route but the normal N4 highway route.
