Hi, please forgive a dumb question from a new comer who may well have done a dumb thing…
Am I correct, from what I’ve read here, that the One-Way and Two-Way lanes inside a car park are not to be included, only the road that goes around the car park?
If this is the case, I’ll get to deleting the ones I’ve put in and apologise profusely.

If you haven’t read it already, the wiki is a great place to get started as it answers all sorts of questions. In particular, under the Car Parks section there is a bit on parking roads. The general advice is to draw the minimum to allow navigation in and out of the car park but do not map individual lanes. How much you actually end up drawing will depend on the size of the car park.
You’ve obviously already found the forum. It’s another great place to read through for tips.

In my area there are lots and lots of A-road lay-bys named with a ‘[P]’, what’s the best approach to these?
Reading the above, I was thinking:
ensure parking road marks the layby and remove the name?

I suspect, given the updated schema waze wants, is to make sure that they look vaguely like This. But these should only exist where you do have a physical separation or barrier between the main road and the lay-by.
So no more [P], no matter how handy it may be…

Laybys are still allowed to be named ‘[P]’, as per How to Map Laybys.
There should not be any Area place covering a layby, though we might update these guidelines to include a Point place for “Services / Layby”. That needs a little more time to evaluate and test.
would it be possible to have the car park tool amended to show roads named [P] by AM area…
Looks like an editor has had fun in Nottingham adding every road they could possibly do so. Might be time to uplock the perimeter roads on this one?

Yes, when a car park is ‘done’, it’s good to lock the PLR segments up to 3.
What would be ruling for car parking facilities in, for instance, school grounds, where there are one-way systems in place for visiting traffic?

In North America, one-way drop-off roads that loop off of and back onto the road may be mapped as PLR if they would be beneficial to guidance.
Parking lots can be a touchy subject, with different coordinators having different feelings on whether they even should be mapped.
In general, if it is not beneficial to guidance, it should not be mapped.
Keep in mind that Waze will route to the segment nearest the Google Maps pin (typically the center of the property), so one must be very careful before mapping that “faculty-only” parking lot with the gated entrance at the rear of the school with a road that passes between the center of the property and the public parking lot or drop-off zone… parents would be directed to that lot, rather than the front.
Temper that with the understanding that Waze is as much about getting OUT as it is getting TO.
If you are in a parking lot near a road that runs adjacent to the school, but with no driveways, Waze will “snap” you to that road when directing you to leave. So for that faculty lot, even though we want to set it up so that Waze does not direct anyone into it, we still want people to be able to get out.
On one-way segments, which are typically alternating every other row, they should not be individually mapped. A single 2-way segment placed between the two one-way roads is sufficient for proper routing.
This thread is about the (not) mapping of Car Park Places in the UK. These places clutter up the search results and map display with providing any useful purpose.
Parking Roads should still be drawn (sparsely) in areas where Wazers can park their car, to aid navigation in and out of the places they are visiting. The navigation point of the place would then be positioned at its entrance.

I just looked at this and to answer your question I would say yes and no. 
Yes the major work on Car Parks is complete.
But no don’t shut it down as in 2 or 3 years time we will be back to where we started with this. :roll: What is needed is for Area Managers to go through the lists about once a month and check the Car Parks that come up. Since there are new editors joining waze all the time and they do like adding Car Parks and not naming them. :o
So I looked through my area on the list and a few towns and found about 15 I could edit and sorted them.
I’m looking at a local car park… ( https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.90219&lat=51.54115&layers=2981&zoom=5&segments=300996772) it appears to have disappeared (perhaps as part of this effort), and been integrated into the local Sainsbury’s as customer parking.
It does however fit the description of a local council car park, used for multiple businesses and tourists and would therefore need to be resurected (in compliance with guidelines, so proper name, details of payment, etc). As this is a large car park, do i place this as an area rather than a point?
There are also some areas of on-street parking that need to be extended further north, do I copy what’s been done on the High Street further south?

Hi John and welcome to Waze map editing. You are spot on with the car park and I would definitely map it as an area place, stick it on the map and the next editor along will guide you gently if you have made any mistakes.
I take it you found the UK Wiki entry on car parks, there is a link to it from the first post, also if you get bored there are some more links to the UK Wiki in my signature.
I wouldn’t add the on street parking, it fails too many of the rules, it hasn’t got a name, it’s not significant, and it’s not really a car park as it’s on road and apart from anything else they are probably too small to show up as an area place in the client. It looks like they were added by an editor who is no longer active :roll: and now you have highlighted them I expect they will get deleted pretty quick. I’ll leave it for Tim. :lol:
