Just wanting to know why people are removing the state from the name seeing as the state can’t be selected.
It makes it harder to find the road when some roads are in 4 different states in australia.

If the suburb name is unique then the state is not required as per the Australian City Names page.
Which state are you in where the state name is being removed?
Where I see them (and can edit the segments!), I have been removing the state from the city/suburbs field where the suburb does not appear in the Australian Duplicate Cities list (and also checking Aust Post if the suburb is new or I am otherwise dubious about whether it’s unique or not).
In quite a few places, some segments in the suburb have the state name and some don’t, causing the suburb to appear twice in the livemap. E.g. Wiley Park (NSW)
Sorry for the late reply.
The reason why I asked why people are removing the state is due to this being a rule set about 4 years ago, on the forums.
The wiki page never had all the local rules Australian editors were/are meant to follow.
The reason why the State was added to the road name was so it’d set the suburbs area, and allows people to some what set a state for that road. as you couldn’t do this in the editor and still can’t set the state the road is in.
Waze nave got around to adding any of the states to be applied to roads.
An example of a problem is that Yatala that is in QLD is also in SA, this means waze would see yatala going from SA all the way to QLD so it’d be say a 4-5000 KLM size suburb that would show up in areas that didn’t have a set suburb.
It also makes it harder to do a search as you’ll see 4 or so roads but as they can be in different states this doesn’t show up in the results.
Hey.
From what I can see the place names aren’t technically the same. An SA place name list shows “Yatala Vale”, while a QLD place name search shows just “Yatala”. This seems to be what is represented in Waze presently.
I note that Google shows places like Yatala Labour Prison and Yatala Snack Bar in SA (both in Northfield?). If SA locals tend to refer to Yatala Vale or some other region as Yatala I guess it could possibly cause problems, although I couldn’t see any duplicate street names in these two regions (Yatala Vale, SA or Yatala, QLD) and from the bit of mucking around I did in Waze, it seemed obvious to me whether I was getting a search result in SA, or QLD…
Yatala is a bad example. The only state where it is a bounded locality or suburb is Queensland.
In NSW it is a Trig Station.
In SA it is a Stream, Brook, Watercourse, Anabranch, Backwash, Backwater, Run, Creek, River, Gully, Rivulet, Beck, Backwater or Burn
Yatala Vale is an outer northeastern rural suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Tea Tree Gully local government area,
Yatala is between logan and gold coast
Also have Yatala labour prison in South Australia as well.
Yatala and Yatala Vale are not the same name.
Yalata Labour Prison is not a suburb or bounded locality.
Yatala is still a unique locality.
