I have been using Waze for some years now, and now driving Taxi’s part time which is a great way to find issues, new esates, updating house numbers etc. But I am struggling to join new roads, updates house numbers etc. as many of the roads are locked in my area. I am adding new roads, but they are not joining up to the main roads. Cannot seem to get the node to always link correctly.
How can I get the roads around Fleet, Hampshire UK unlocked perhaps within a 5-10 ,mile radius?
Hi and welcome to the UK forums. Waze uses an editor ranking system to control how much you can edit. Level 1 editors, like yourself, can edit with 1 mile of all roads you drive. This ensures editors have the best local knowledge. As your rank gets higher this editing area increases in size.
Waze also uses an auto locking system on the busiest 2.5% of roads based on traffic volume and locks them accordingly. If you try to connect a new road to a locked road no junction will be formed. You are always able to request an unlock or assistance from a higher ranked editor by posting in the UK Request Forums.

I have been editing for a while now, and still only Level 1. Now I have more and more updates to add, but no means to do so. I understand the ranking issue, but my ‘edits’ figure never changes, and although I can only edit within a mile, it does not record all my journeys, even though I use Waze to navigate them, so this is not consistent either.
My welcome e-mail some years ago, indicated I could post here to unlock roads in my area which is what I am asking for, otherwise I am adding roads, which I can not join up to a node. Which is no help to anyone. The other day I tried to add a location that did not exist and it would not allow me to add the name of the village, as it did not already exist and I did not have permission. So I have to add with an incorrect name instead of a nearby town…?
Finally, if my edits are not recorded in my profile, buy accepted on the map, how can I progress to higher level anyway?
You’ll get upgraded to Level 2 when you have made 3,000 edits. The points & edits shown in everyone’s profile have been stuck for over a month but they are still being counted. The red ‘pill’ graph on your profile shows each day’s number of edits, the darker the red the more edits that day, hover on each day to see the number of edits recorded.
If you look through the unlock requests in this forum we only unlock lengths of roads for an edit to be made and then they are relocked. We do not unlock vast areas indefinitely, as this defeats the point of the locking system. If you want to make a connection, post a request with a permalink for the existing road to be unlocked. You can also ask for new city names to be added to the map by posting a request that includes a permalink to the village in question.
