A restriction has been placed on Chapman Street in Hull here and I think it’s wrong, but having zero expertise with restrictions I wanted to check before correcting it: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-0.32855&lat=53.75429&layers=3045&zoom=6&segments=188305252
There’s a bridge with an MGW of 3T, so HGVs etc should not be crossing it, but cars, taxis, motorbikes, vans etc are all allowed to drive on this road. At the moment it’s set to restrict all vehicles apart from taxis and motorcycles, but as the Waze app only currently recognised private vehicles, this should be unticked as well shouldn’t it?
It came about because over the last few weeks I’ve been having some crazy routes given to me to work by Waze, when normally I use Chapman Street without any issues, and so I guess this would explain it.

As you suggest, with the Private Vehicles box ticked, Waze wouldn’t take anyone along Chapman St. I’ve unticked Private Vehicles.
Unfortunately, I think it’ll probably take until the next update has been run before you see Waze routing you along there.
Thanks, until I read the Wiki again I wasn’t 100% sure about restrictions, I guess editors just need to very careful about things like this.
I will go further and say this segment should not have any restriction on it at all.
It’s currently restricted for HOV-2 and HOV-3. HOV stands for High Occupancy Vehicle, which is used for schemes where you can only drive in HOV lanes if you have more than one person in the car.
- HOV refers to cars. They don’t generally have a MGW>3 tonnes!
- There is only 1 section of HOV lane in the UK. It’s less than a mile long and it isn’t here!
It’s restricted for Towing Vehicles. Towing a small trailer doesn’t put your weight over 3 tonnes.
It’s restricted for Hazardous Materials. A small case of explosives in a demolition contractor’s boot or a van carrying medial radioactive sources counts as HM, but doesn’t put the weight over 3 tonnes.
It’s restricted for Public Transportation - which means buses. (Buses actually means coaches!). Buses follow the route they’re going to follow and don’t need restrictions to guide them.
It’s restricted for Trucks - which is a very generic term and does not mean vehicles over a certain weight, or height, or width, or length. Perhaps the only interpretation that might make sense is “commercial vehicle” - and there are plenty of those under 3 tonnes, except when Faitaru’s boss is supervising the loading. :lol:
And, applying to all of the above, there is no way to set your vehicle type in Waze anyway.
It would be lovely if Waze could handle dimensional restrictions - height, weight, length, emissions level etc. But it can’t and putting in silly restrictions like this to pretend it can is a waste of time.
