What road type should I be using for privately-owned roads inside housing complexes? Specifically if they have no gate, but do have a “no trespassing” sign?
I believe in the past I was told to make them PLRs, but I’ve noticed some are PRs. Should I still be making them PLRs? Are there any exceptions that I should know about (e.g. something do with routing or addresses)?
I prefer PRs as it keeps them visually distinct from commercial centres.
In a single-entrance complex, it makes no difference if there is a gate or not as there is only one routing path. Mixing PR and PLR is only necessary when you need to shape routing to send people to the correct entrance or if there are alleyways within the complex.
Examples:
Alley within residential complex. Property has two equally valid entrances. (Homes facing main road have distinct addresses, thus get their own RPPs) https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=49.84483&lon=-119.48476&marker=true&s=13487887220734&zoomLevel=19&segments=59459919
