I live in the US Seattle area. I needed to get from home to the ferry dock which in this case was Everett WA. to Pier 50 in Seattle. However Waze kept wanting to route me onto the ferry and across Puget Sound! Why would it do that? I just wanted to get to the dock!
Nothing’s perfect. Currently crossing times for the ferries isn’t very accurate. The routing engine doesn’t think it takes that long to get across. The Bremerton to Seattle run for example is shown to take about 20 minutes, when in reality it’s well over an hour when you factor in loading and unloading times. But here’s what you need to do.

if you’re not going to travel through any toll roads turn that off in the Navigation section of the menu. The ferries are registered under Toll Roads since you have to pay to get on them.

when you do get routed onto the ferry, or any other route that you don’t want to use, tap the ETA area and choose a different route. Waze gives you 3 to choose from.
Also there are problems with users selecting places from other search providers in Waze. Some of the other providers have “Seattle ferry dock” placed closer to the docks exit ramp rather then the entrance. So Waze sends you over the ferry to get to the Exit road on seattle ferry dock.
Waze’s place (seattle ferry terminal) is mapped correctly. So when you search select other search engines at the bottom of the screen and select Waze’s result for your search. That will route correctly.
