Any Southern Ontario Wazers? I’m in Cambridge and have mapped roads in Cambridge, Kitchener, Guelph, Waterloo, Fergus, Meaford, Exeter, Hensall, and London… and just since Xmas when I got my iPhone. Whew… I’ve been busy! Haha.
I see others on the map from time to time but no-one ever seems to be very close by.
I am in SW Ontario as well, mostly London - Woodstock area but sometimes up towards K/W/C. Hopefully a few more Wazers will come on board for this area but I am having fun doing most of the editing for around here to be honest… Helps kill some down time at work or when I’m just taking it easy!
Just joined a few days ago myself. Been doing some Wazing in the Byron area and along the 401/402 corridor between Colonel Talbot and Ingersoll. I’m also an area manager for London but they put the wrong name on the map. Should be Ookpic NOT brad.
Thought everyone should know that support sent me an email today stating that they are working on adding provinces to the cartouche.
For now they would like the city to include the province. For example the city of London would be labeled “London, Ontario”. Currently there are 3 cities listed for London. “London, Canada” which is incorrect and “London” which is also incorrect. The “London” designation was created by me as I didn’t know what to use. I am now correcting all the roads I have edited or created to “London, Ontario” as per instructed.
I hear ya! Some of mine are labelled London and some are London, Canada. I’ve been just plugging away at it. Nice to meet you! What do you think about the abbreviations? I just modeled my roads to what Google maps looks like.
Be nice when they give us a satellite aerial photo! Beats trying to use GPS points to determine road geometry.
Nice to meet you too (virtually). Not sure what you mean about the abbreviations. Isn’t get any emails from them about the country/province issue if that was part of it. Then again I haven’t been near my computer in a couple days so I haven’t been able to see the map recently.
I’m sure once they have implemented “Provinces” in the maps, that a simple update could be done against the database instead of having to go through and re-label all the roads. Since I didn’t know… all the “city” labels I have been using have been just the city name… no “, Canada” or “, Ontario” after them. I’m sure a simple statement can populate the Province:
update road_table set province = “Ontario” where city = “London” and country = “Canada”;
What I meant was to use the abbreviation for the road type. For example:
Instead of using the word “Street” I will use “St”
So…
Street - St
Road - Rd
Place - Pl
Court - Crt
Boulevard - Blvd
West - W
East - E
North - N
South - S
This is just a personal preference though as some of the small streets have long street names. Here is some more that came from the Canada Post website regarding abbreviations.
Hey There! Nice to meet you! Well, that would be excellent and I’m sure you’re correct. I’m not at all a data base guy. I’ll just not worry about it then and any that I make from now on or edit, I’ll use the London, Ontario. Thanks!
City names are tied to the roads. If someone labels a road and applies a City name to it, that is what will show up on the maps. To fix, edit the roads and put the correct City name in. If the road is outside of city limits, then leave the City field blank.
NOTE: There is a bug that was supposed to be fixed this week that prevents you from leaving City blank when editing a road. As of today it seems that you still can’t leave City blank.
Found a couple really good youtube vids on some mapping techniques. Not sure about everyone else but it is definitely getting easier as you learn more about what the different options and editing features do. I’ve also found that I have to refresh the map much less often when using Google Chrome. I normally use Firefox but it and IE both seem to require significant number of refreshes as the cartouche seems to get “stuck” sometimes when selecting a street. Chrome has this issue as well but not nearly as often as Firefox and IE.
Does anyone here have working aerial photos on the North American Cartouche? I was using the world waze site by accident for editing a few days ago and there were working aerial photos but it was an old version of the map I guess from about the time the server split! But on the North American site cartouche no aerial photos in Canada but of course the latest edited map!
Currently there is only 4 or 5 of us locally that are contributing. It’s a fun hobby though!
It would be great to have aerial photos! There isn’t any available in our area either. I sent an email asking for a time frame but haven’t had a reply yet. Hopefully soon!
Looks like they have fixed the issue of allowing roads to be placed WITHOUT a city. This will be great for the 401 Corridor and Major highways that travel between towns and cities.
Ok, so you’ve created a junction but for some reason you wish to move a road but the problem is that when you try to move it you discover that there is a connecting road that all of a sudden gets yanked with it.
Solution? Disconnect Road from Node.
Highlight the road near the connecting node. While holding down the CTRL key highlight the connecting node. Then select “Disconnect Road from node”. This will allow you to make the adjustments you wish. You can then reconnect it in the normal ways.
I’m considering becoming an area manager for Toronto along with Ookpic… But will wait to see how the new point system plays out… I know points don’t really mean anything, but they give me incentive to correct the cartouche maps…
See you guys on the road… I have all privacy settings off so you’ll be able to tell it’s me.
