Could it be true?
As it hasent been posted here yet i might have too be careful with this one…
Personally i have been adding speed limits too roads around the local area that i know of
as have noticed in Waze toolbox that it now offers a speed feature , this shows which roads have been added with speed limits and red for no speeds added so far
School zones we will unfortunately have to ignore until time restrictions are added. For variable limits, the most common speed limit on the road should be included. (i.e, if it’s 40 most of the time and only 60 some of the time, mark it as 40.)
They currently have a beta release which has speed limits displayed in the app - similar to TomTom, etc. These don’t yet show in Australia, even with the beta, but I suspect that once enough roads have speed limits added, Waze will release this publicly.
with variable speed limits im sure people would use their grey matter over what waze would tell you too do , not sure how tomtoms and the other big gps’s handle that function either . no doubt in times too come there might be a function too add that there is a variable speed say through road works like the little things we have now like hazard , police and so forth… just a guess
first e have to get some more speed added too the WME
My wife’s Tomtom device is a few years old now so don’t know if things have changed, but it only shows a single speed limit for the road, not variations for school zones etc. (And they don’t always get the limits correct either - I remember sending speed limit updates for roads back in the day.)
Interesting, you might have got them as a bug. At least you can test them and maybe report back on behaviour for the rest of us could be a good learning exercise for the rest of us
The requirement is for Minor Highway, Major Highway and Freeway to be 90% complete last I heard. I know that I spent some time earlier this week completing the routes that I drive regularly enough to know the limits. Gav has done heaps from what I can see.
All I can say is well-done team! But still plenty to do.
I think maybe Waze has run the script I read about. Speed limits seem to have appeared on all segments of Primary Street or greater and a new box “Verified” has been added. From what I can see if you add a speed limit it automatically ticks the verified box. The highlighter script still shows no speed limit if a speed limit has been entered but the verified box is not ticked.
So maybe this is about to go live and you can expect a million URs for incorrect speed limits!
I was wondering how these old segments (old modification dates) had speed limits. I completely missed the Verified box. I dare say they’ve done a good job of using the speed data, based on a random sample of segments I’ve had a look at (though some are definitely wrong, but these are country roads less travelled).
At first I thought whoever edited the segment last had added these speed limits, but then I saw the verified box and guessed that there was some automatic process of adding limits. Pretty much every primary street I’ve seen is incorrect, with segments varying between 50 and 60, sometimes it’s 50 one way and 60 the other way. I think they shouldn’t have added these limits as it’s misleading information. If there’s no speed sign it’s 50km/h, but if the app is telling you 60 then it could be a real problem.
As for the script, my toolbox shows the speed limit colours, even if it’s unverified.
