Split Roads by Center Median

There’s a lot of roads which have a center median which allow only one way traffic per side. Is there any reason why the roads aren’t split to begin with? Almost all the roads I know of that are known to be split are not.

I just tried playing with road splitting in my area (ellemere), and I think I caused a mess. Sorry in advance.

Splitting is bad. If you split a road that was working fine before, please put it back.

There’s a lengthy page in the wiki about when not to split a road… Which is pretty much always. You need to have a very wide road with a wide median to be improving the map by splitting.

I have seen the WIKI and following the guide line

A road should be split when:
GPS tracks show a clearly definable and continuous gap (blank area) between the color-by-azimuth arrows at the 100m zoom level.
U-turns are required to properly make turns that are blocked by a median

But I do see the concerns with splitting in the following paragraph. Ill place it back the way it was. It was for testing purposes.

And yet, you missed the most important guideline at the start of the section on splitting:

Generally only freeways or major highways are split into two one-way roads.
When initially reviewing whether to split or “un-split” (merge back together) a roadway, consider these points first:

1. If a road is currently working with no problem reports, consider leaving it as is.
2. If the area has an Area Manager, consult with them before splitting/un-splitting. If the area does not have an Area Manager and after reviewing the formal guidelines below you are unsure which way to go, consider sending a permalink of the road to the map editing forums to get additional feedback from other editors.

The trouble with the u-turn part of that specification is that we often see user reports for whenever they’re actually instructed. Nobody seems to like being told to do a u-turn.

Those two roads are unlocked now.
