SR-XXX to NY-XXX

I see from the NY Wiki page that the State Route naming standard there has changed recently from SR-XXX to NY-XXX. Why the change? Will the client app pronounce “New York” or just “En-Wye”?

The state-specific prefix is required for the upcoming state-specific shields to work. SR-XX will only produce a generic circle/oval shield.

Kick ass.

I just had a chance to test this, TTS says “New York” for NY-XXX.

Nice. I’ll be updating my area then.

Orange and Rockland counties should be up-to-date with the NY- names. I’ve been doing this by county as I get to FC updates.

Meh. State shields are a toy. And they really could program it without this, but they won’t. Good luck to everyone spending time on this.

In all fairness, there should be a bulk way to update anything that is, in either primary name or any alternate name, State Hwy XXX, State Route XXX, State Rte XXX, or SR-XXX to NY-XXX, even if we limited such an ability to the Champ community to limit risk to the map.

In the counties I’ve worked on so far, changing it over segment by segment is not only highly inefficient and a gross waste of editor time, but any task with such extreme repetition also becomes very prone to errors, undermining the whole effort to begin with.

Likely, a community script is probably our best chance at this. If Waze is unwilling to render an NY-specific shield based on current road names, I doubt they’d be willing to give us such a mass-editing tool.

@Phantom that is possible I’ll send you a pm
