Well, I think, that is our responsibility to do so, coz we know the country and the cities more. And I will translate both two suggestions and post below.
And I really hope we could get a guideline for edit soon, Cheers.
English explanation
A: learn from UK version from UK map editing guideline
All cities, districts, towns and villages may not include administrative levels in editing. And the official Chinese names are recommended to be used.
For example: Beijing City, Xi’an City, Beihai City need to be edited as “北京,西安,北海”, Chaoyang District, Dongzhi County, Lixin Township need to be edited as “朝阳,东至,立新”. All these names should be used in cities and towns area, the roads in rural area should be edited as “no city”.
The priority of roads in regions should be ordered from high to low by traffic volume and importance. So that, could be much easier to define cities’ area.
Such as, the Expressway(freeway) in China should be edited to prefecture-level cities. And major highway could be edited to prefecture-level cities or counties/districts. Minor highway and primary road are edited to prefecture-level cities or counties/districts by the locations, some of those roads are the boundary of two districts, they need to be set as cities roads. And all streets are counties/districts and lower.
B: from Waze Japan style
All cities, districts, towns and villages need include administrative levels in editing. And the official Chinese names are recommended to be used.
For instance, Chaoyang District, Beijing, should be edited as “北京市朝阳区”, Daye City should be edited as “黄石市大冶市”, Town of Sanjiang in Leshan City should be named on the map as “井研县三江镇”. The rule of belonging is the administrative level of the region itself and one level higher than it. That is “市-区”,“市-县”,“区-镇”,“县-乡”, etc.
Because of the rule of Chinese administrative management, all the roads in the region should be edited in the cities or counties.
For example, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, the Expressways and National Highways in the Jiujiang region need to set as the roads of “九江市”. And provincial highways/county highways in Xingzi County which belongs to Jiujiang, should edited to “九江市星子县”. The roads in Town of Bailu should edited to “星子县白鹿镇”.
Note:
Under the UK method, there are some villages/towns etc that are duplicated. When this happens, the county is also used in brackets. ie, Upton (Cornwall) or Upton (Oxfordshire).
Yes, that’s what we did in the UK. However, I’m expecting Waze is giving us ‘State’ field which will reduce the chance of duplication and the use of brackets. Well, well, well, sure we do not know the ETA of the ‘state’ field…at usual…
