The new city renaming process

Does the list of renaming requests get published anywhere that we can see? Would be nice to know in advance of filling out the request form that we’re not wasting our time duplicating the efforts of someone else. Would also be useful to know which names are likely to be fixed by Waze, so that we can concentrate on manually fixing the ones that aren’t.

Not yet, though I can see that it is needed. How about I post a list of them to the stickied thread?

We have a check in place for duplicates so the same city would not be requested twice even if it was submitted twice.

All the ones that we push to Waze will be done by them, it just seems to take a LONG time. My thinking is that if you feel you’re can manually fix it then do so and don’t request it in the form, it all comes down to the number of segments I and the amount of time you have for useful edits.

Just one more point. No-one has submitted any yet, the only ones I have are those that were outstanding from the previous thread.

I was thinking more about it from the end-user point of view - given that at first glance the request form gives the impression it’ll take a while to fill out correctly (a combination of the lengthy introduction text and the constriction of all the form contents into that narrow column which ends up falling off the bottom of the screen), it doesn’t seem like a user-friendly approach to expect people to fill out the form not knowing if their efforts are a waste of time because someone else has already requested the same thing. There’s also the risk that people will think someone else must have already requested the same thing (e.g. for a name that’s obviously wrong and on a part of the map frequented by several active editors) and not then bother requesting it themselves.

Absolutely, but if you don’t know that no-one else has put in a request, then there’s a risk that your manual editing work will end up clashing with the Waze renaming process - at best it will just mean that you’ll start the edits and then Waze will finish them off for you mid-session, but at worst it could mean a bit of a mess. So knowing which areas are safe to edit manually, and which have been earmarked for the attention of Waze, would also be useful.
