Toll road checklist - US / Canada

Please identify any toll roads in the US or Canada that you will convert to toll roads in the editor, or that have been designated toll roads already. List your name if you are going to work on that road. I will monitor the posts and update the first post to reflect what has been assigned/completed.

This topic covers toll roads, not individual bridges or ferries. Those are covered in another thread. Bgodette posted a link below to a list of all toll roads in the United States. Thanks!

It’s not a complete list, but if everything on it is updated it’d probably be good to go.

It’s missing some toll roads for Colorado, which I updated last night. Mt Evans, Pikes Peak, and Trail Ridge are effectively toll roads, but only Trail Ridge is a point-to-point.

This information should also be available from each state’s DOT webpage if we wish to compile our own “clean” list instead of using wikipedia.

Edit: Wikipedia List for Canada

I like getting a list together. Is a google doc in order for this type of thing. Sort of like this one I was using for Florida?

Sure, for complicated states that would work. Would you (or you and banished) be willing to monitor Florida and then report when the entire network is done?

I will eventually add all states to the OP so we have an idea how much work is done, in progress, or unassigned.

In San Diego, CA - State Route 125 is done.

The only other toll road that I am aware of in San Diego is the carpool lane (separated road in some locations, adjacent un-mapped lane in other areas) on Interstate 15. It’s free for carpools and pay if you don’t meet the carpool requirements. Waiting for feedback on whether it makes sense to mark it as toll.

I say we don’t do anything with quasi-toll roads such as HOV lanes until we have HOV lane support, which will require ToD turn restrictions and direction support.

Yeah I will keep an eye on it. Banished knows all about it and sure he will keep you informed or use the spreadsheet. Not sure if it is a complete list as I haven’t found a link on FL DOT that lists the toll road system in its entirely. It is in bits and pieces there. Probably will need to go to the sunpass system to check and make sure I got everything.

This post is only for roads, correct? No toll bridges or anything of that ilk correct?

If so, you can mark down for NC the Triangle Expressway as a toll road and Completed. We are so proud that we actually have a toll road now in NC. All 3.5 miles of it.

CA, Orange County
SR-73 is done.

I believe we are marking toll bridges also.

Yes we are marking toll bridges. No we are not going to track them here.

New Orleans, Louisiana: Crescent City Connection E (US-90 Bus E) done.
Metairie, Louisiana: Lake Pontchartrain Causeway S done.

Was a decision ever made whether to check the entire road, or just a single segment?

Every segment of the road or ramps that if you drive that segment or later segments will cause you to pay a toll.

I’ll take care of the PA turnpike east and west and the NE extension. Somebody want to grab the Mon?

Okay, that’s what I did.

As mentioned last night, all toll roads in Colorado are taken care of.

At least this is how I believe Waze expects this to be done based on how we do Parking Lots, Private Roads, etc. I don’t believe that Waze has provided specific guidance.

There’s a possible argument for flagging all segments of the tollway instead of just the toll plazas: Any future construction that adds new interchanges will automatically be dealt with as the flag is preserved. This is helpful if toll flagging is rank restricted.

I’m working on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) in New Jersey right now. I had to basically make a diagram of the entire length to figure out which entrances and exits have tolls. It is a real FUN road. Toll booths on some (not all) entrances, on some (not all) exits, and a few “mainline” toll plazas on the main road (some north only, some south only, some both).

In the end, I think I will have to just do the specific segments with toll booths on them since two cars can be driving side by side on the road and one will be paying for it and the other won’t.

So it’s possible to enter and exit the GSP without paying any toll?

Yes. There are no tolls at all between MM125 (Raritan) and MM142 (Union) for example. And there are about 19 interchanges between those two points. Elsewhere is a hodge-podge of tolls and no tolls overlapping. I’ll post more info once I finish my diagram.

(I’m in Beltsville MD this week for work. Some days I have free time, other days I am working 9 hour days. We will see what tomorrow brings.)
