I want to join the editorsโ community. What do I do?
Welcome to the forum for map editors in Israel.
Map editing is open to everyone in their editing area.
There are 2 ways to update the map:
- Through the app (adding places)
- Through the Map Editor
When editing in the Map Editor, if the element being edited is locked at a level higher than the editorโs level, an edit suggestion is created.
It is recommended to use the Map Update Requests forum, where you can also request to lower a lock level to enable an update.
It is best to start with small changes and only after gaining experience, edit more extensively.

The map editor community in Israel, like in the rest of the world, operates on a fully volunteer basis to improve and maintain the appโs maps. For most of us (if not all), it has become a hobby, and we would be happy for any new member to actively join the community.
As of the writing of this response, you are at editing level 1 and you can access the Waze Map Editor. Initially, you will only be able to edit in the vicinity (about a single kilometer around) of the roads you have recently driven on while the app was open with the same user account logged into the map editor.
Please note that most of the map in Israel is locked at a higher level, due to the need to supervise and ensure that inappropriate changes do not reach the appโs map by accident or malice. However, you will still be able to edit the roads and submit the changes as an edit suggestion, detailing what was done and why. If the edit is more complex or requires editing that is not currently supported as a suggestion, you can reach out here on the forum and request a lock reduction (up to 2 levels, meaning you can work quite freely on roads up to level 3).
In addition to editing roads, you can suggest new places as well as changes to existing places. A locking mechanism exists here too, though it is less โtoughโ. Initially, all the changes you suggest will require approval, even if the place is not locked at all, but after a certain number of your new place suggestions are approved, this restriction will be lifted.
I suggest you also go through the courses developed by the company (in English) and review the Map Editing Guide.
Once you cross the threshold of 200 edits, you can contact the training coordinator to undergo training, and in the future, even advance and be appointed as an Area Manager. You can read about the community structure and the various roles here.
Of course, activity in the community forum is also important. Itโs recommended that you check the list every now and then; sometimes there are discussions, and weโd be happy to get different opinions, try to provide solutions to existing problems, and just share successes. Any forum activity is welcome. Naturally, you are also invited to start discussions yourself and ask questions, suggest solutions to problems or things that you or your acquaintances have encountered, and ask questions.
But please note that we handle map matters; we are not involved in the appโs development and do not have the ability to develop features or make changes to the appโs functionality.
