Waze have now finished importing our petrol stations, bringing up our total to just under 7 thousand. There are still ASDA and Sainsburys missing, plus some minor brands such as Gulf and Pace. [tracking page]
Oh, and Waze have said they’ve turned this feature on for the UK (see manual).
Now, a lot of the imported data used postcode locations instead of actual locations, so some of the petrol stations will be slightly out of place. It’s going to be a big job to check them all and get them fixed.
To help with this, I built a Petrol Station Checker, which has the locations for all the imported stations.
Enter the coordinates for the middle of your area, and it will show the closest station. Click the link to edit that station in WME, and then come back to verify it. If you can’t do a certain station, just skip it and someone else will get to it. It should be self explanatory, I hope.
Notes:
- Be aware of a bug when editing landmarks: make sure you click into the description box (or press tab) before saving, or you could loose what you typed. Double-check after saving.
- Some of the data is a bit stale, and you might see 2 or more stations in the same place. Pick one, and delete the others as appropriate.
- ASDA and Sainsburys will need to be drawn in manually. Many of the locations shown won’t sell fuel, so just mark as Verified and move on.
- Country Managers can leave the starting coordinates blank, and get random stations from the whole country.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Nice job Tim.
Could you do a page that allows us to go through the verified ones in a similar manner?
Very nice. Currently coming up with a PHP error currently , so I assume you’re working on it.
I’ve added an option at the top to show Unverified, Verified or All stations.
It will let you know which stations have already been verified.
Good idea, thanks!
It is really helpful to keep track. I had a go on it last night for a few of my local stations and it brought up a few I had forgot… Great work

Tim,
Could you provide a input box to allow for pasting a permalink, from which you then extract the Lat/Lon?
Couple of things:
Is this feature actually working yet? Plenty of petrol stations in my area but can’t see any on waze search results.
Is the names for fuel types localised? We don’t have ‘midgrade’. It’s just petrol and diesel with posh versions of each at some stations.
I’ve been told it’s live here, byt haven’t seen any evidence of it. It could be that there won’t be any results to show until there are some prices logged.
Has anyone tried going to a petrol station and updating the prices?
As for types, Waze only have room for 4: Unleaded, Super Unleaded, Diesel and LPG. It’s done for whole UK.

Yeah I was told it was live as of yesterday but yet to see any evidence yet. Sat at a Shell this afternoon trying to find the option to add a price but no such luck. :-/

Interesting. Is so that when you happen to be editing a gas station, you can check to see if it’s been verified in the database? Good idea!
You can now either add ?lat= &lon= to the URL (ideal for a bookmarklet*), or paste the whole WME url into the first entry box. When doing the latter, it will automatically switch to showing All stations.
- something like this, perhaps:
javascript:(function(){var center_lonlat=new OpenLayers.LonLat(wazeMap.center.lon,wazeMap.center.lat);center_lonlat.transform(new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:900913"),new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"));window.open('http://207.192.73.229/waze/petrol.php?show=2&lon='+center_lonlat.lon+'&lat='+center_lonlat.lat,'Petrol');})();
I’ve extended the start location box, and made it also accept a postcode. Fixed a couple minor bugs today too.
- 527 done so far - 7,078 to go

Thumbs up for the tracking tool
Works great. Hopefully that 7000 will wizz by.
Could a Country manager move this Murco Station (details updated) to the other side of the road over the white roofed building. The edge of my editable area runs down the centre of the road

Done. I’ve fixed up the junction too.
The gas prices option will replace the pave option on the report menu (at least in the iOS version of Waze) once Waze turns the feature on.
already has in the latest version now available on the iOS app store
as you may see in the other forum post though there are a few problems updateing prices…
