Thanks for the reply, I had thought about putting the UR in but nearly every L3 road ina 5 mile radius is incorrect. Will see if they can bulk unlock them
Thanks again
Updated stats and heat map in post #2: Status of UK Speed Limits - March 1st, 2016
Please heed this memo to all editors: There are currently a lot of editing points available for setting speed limits. However, this activity by itself does not demonstrate the editing quality required of good editor. In fact, setting speed limits on large numbers of segments whilst ignoring other mapping issues will leave your name on those problems, and this may affect any future applications for Area Manager or rank promotions.
Also, be aware that Waze will thottle your edit points if you are making too many edits of the same type in a small period of time. Please do take the time to check for and correct other problems in the area, and focus on overall map quality rather than edit quantity. We’re a long way from getting speed limits enabled, and in the meantime we can be fixing actual problems that our users are reporting.
That is all. Carry on!
Is it possible for temporary area manager areas to get assigned for setting speed limits? I see some red in the heatmap there for Northern Ireland around the north western parts, although I haven’t driven up there in the past 90 days for it to be an editable area for me.
As speed limits are not top priority right now, we will not be granting temporary areas.
If/when we decide we need a map raid to cover the “last mile”, then we might consider them.
(Great question - thanks for asking!)
Re the heatmap - I was assuming it was showing how “hot” the limit verification activity was, with red areas corresponding to lots of verified limits. But as cw1998’s comment suggests, and which now seems to tie in better with the %age completion figures you’ve also posted, does red actually mean areas which are hotspots of unverified limits?
I’m not entirely sure myself, but I was going on the basis that all the green over to the east of Northern Ireland meant that speed limits were complete there as seriousarsonist and myself have added speed limits to almost every road in that area of the country.
I could be wrong, but that’s what I was basing it off. Green = good/complete. Red = bad/speed limits missing
Yes, Green areas have had their speed limits set/verified, whereas red areas have not.
Apologies if these are not CVD friendly colours.
:ugeek:
Is there any scope for getting access to a heat map that is more detailed and/or can be zoomed? There’s not much left out my way (A roads are pretty sparse here anyway) and I’d like an easier way of finding what I’ve missed!
Thanks
I use the WME Colour Highlights for chrome WME Color Highlights
I know it is also available for Greasyfork for FF Here
It has the options:

Which make it very easy to see streets at zoom 4 and more major roads from zoom 1

I have Color Highlights but AIUI it only offers No Speed limit rather than Unverified? (Your screengrab wouldn’t display for me?)
I also use “WME Speeds” (also on GreasyFork) which can highlight unverified at certain zoom levels but it’s a bit slow moving around the whole of North West Wales using it. Tim’s maps are good for knowing where to start.
Thanks
Martin
I just did a quick scan arround the Llandudno area with Tim’s extension and it worked fine, most of the roads arround there have no limit…
I use a combination of “Locks (red)” with “No Speed Limit - plus streets (orange)”
That shows me the sections I can edit (upto L2) with no speed limit attached.
It highlights unverified speed limits for me
Silly me - there was I thinking that “No speed limit” meant “No speed limit”!! ![]()
You’re right - the No speed limit selection does indeed show up Unverifed as well.
Thanks
Martin
Changing the subject.
I have noticed today that a few UR’s in London are complaining about Speed Limits.
Has this gone Live??

Could possibly be that V4 for Android has just been released and the speedometer is on as default.
As far as I know, only beta testers can see speed limits at the present. This has only become available on Android very recently, so we’d expect to see an increased number of URs about them.
Carry on. :ugeek:
Speed Limits came out with the 4.2 update, has been out on iOS for a few weeks (early to mid Feb).
Beta testers have had it for much longer than that, I have had the speed monitoring interface for about 6 months before they added the warning system to it, for some reason I think November time we started testing it on iOS.
FYI we are testing 4.3 on iOS ATM few nice tweaks over 4.2, but usual NDA…

If it is beta testers I will tell them to edit the map themselves. Politely that is. [emoji2]

Beta testers don’t necessarily have the experience or inclination to edit the map, nor have a high enough rank to edit the roads. Do introduce them gently to editing, passing the Quick Start guide, and give them some mentoring. ![]()
Ok I will also point out speed limits are not a priority of the UK map editors at the moment.[emoji2]
