[UK] User Comments on Road Closures via Email

I’m experimenting with a new service that will send you an email if a Wazer has commented on a closure that you have created. This will then give you the opportunity to check other sources to see if it needs amending. For instance, you may find the closure was originally shown on roadworks.org but not any more.

If you are interested in receiving such notifications, please send me your email address via PM.
(UK editors only)

I’m also considering making this mandatory for all Area Managers, depending how long it takes Waze to come up with their own solution. Let me know if you would object to this.

Thanks to everyone who’s sent me their address (or otherwise indicated they want in). I’ve added you all.

Also be aware than emails will be sent to Area Managers if the creator cannot be emailed.
Don’t worry, there’s only a few comments being submitted by users each day.

You might like to use this opportunity to looks for Road Closure Map Problems in your area, and get them added to the map. See the thread on Dealing with Road Closure Requests for tips on how best to do that.

Just got my first email. Went into my SPAM folder, but hopefully now I’ve moved it into my inbox it shouldn’t do that again.

Very informative though:

If I understand this correctly what ever road we set as closed we will get notifications about if there are UR? As not seen anything yet

Not URs. It’s the comments that get attached to the closure on the live map or through the mobile app. We’ve never had viability of these before, unless we look specifically on the live map or the app itself, and then we have to click on each one individually. I think this will be a great tool, even if most of the comments will be trash.

All Area Managers* are now opted in to this by default, and is this considered one of the responsibilities of the role. Get in touch if this is a problem for you.
[*correction: all area managers who have been creating road closures]

Recap: when a user comments on a road closure, then an email will be sent to the creator of that closure, or to the nearest area manager.

Please check your spam folders for messages from ClosureMonitor, and mark them as Not Spam and/or add the address to your address book.

Thanks.

Reminder: this only includes comments on road closures, which are otherwise invisible to editors.

URs are not associated with any specific segments or closures, as they’re just points on a map, so it’s not possible to send emails for them. See Tips for Managing User Requests.

Having made good use of several RC emails in the last week or so, enabling me to quickly re-open roads where the associated roadworks had finished several deays ahead of schedule, I’d just like to add my thanks to Tim for setting this up.

One workflow improvement that could be made would be for the email to include a link to the area in WME as well as/instead of to Livemap. In most cases there’s only a single closure in an area, or the description of the closure is sufficient to indicate which one it is if there are several, so I personally have never needed to use livemap to confirm what the email is saying before I then click on the WME link from within livemap to perform whatever action is required. So being able to jump directly into WME from the email would be beneficial. In the event that it isn’t clear which closure the email refers to having opened up WME, we could then simply click on the livemap link within WME to confirm things - essentially reversing the present workflow for those closures where viewing both WME and livemap is required, whilst streamlining the workflow for those closures where it isn’t.

I’ve finally gotten around to doing this - there’s now 2 links: for Livemap and for WME.

Plus a bonus 3rd link that will open the location in the Waze App on your phone, so you can comment back asking for more information (keep it short, don’t hold your breath for a reply).
