Unlock request: Franklin St, Houston, TX

Need multiple segments unlocked to fix turn restrictions at complicated intersection causing user reported errors.

No, it’s not. The system error may be fixed but the turn restriction for the area are still very wrong. Please unlock all the requested segments. Thanks.

Unlocked. I also am PMing andrewfatcat on these as he was the last editor. Perhaps you two, if he’s knowledgable of the area especially, should connect.

Fixed made. But I gotta tell you I’m wondering what’s the point of making unlock requests if those with the power to unlock are going to attempt the fixes from under you. It’s pointless looking for things I know how to fix. Why waste my time trying to contribute?

I encountered the same problem when I requested an unlock in the following thread: http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=265&t=23613 It looked like either the person that unlocked the sections (jondrush) or the area manager (andrewfatcat) swooped in to make the change, and in doing so received credit for resolving the reported map issues.

I really like Waze, but the competitive atmosphere of high-ranking users is less than appealing for encouraging contributions from newer users like myself.

Decided to take a foray into updates for the Houston metro area, particularly addressing the many issue reports I see. I think my brief foray is at an end, because unfortunately more than half the updates I attempted were impossible due to andrewfatcat having segments locked. I’d much rather contribute directly than report to someone else who needs to do something first or is going to make the change directly. What am I missing? Are there enough malicious or grossly unskilled people in the Houston area that locking is really necessary? Otherwise, this at best seems horribly inefficient, and at worst counter to the spirit of community driven maps, which is at the heart of what Waze hopes to present.

(andrew - I did PM you, so am happy to continue discussion there, if you see a way to get around this inefficiency. Thx)

Andrew did reply to my PM (thanks Andrew) and clarified a change in the Waze lock policy I wasn’t aware of, and something Waze didn’t do when changing that policy - i.e. unlock all non-highway segments. :frowning:
