Unlock request in Ottumwa, Iowa

Hi Editors,

I would like to be able to edit the following object(s).
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I am a pizza delivery driver and I’m all over town every day and would like to be able to mark streets that are closed due to construction so people can be routed around them. For example, N. Milner Street from Burhus St to Finley Ave will be closed for at least 6-8 more weeks, and even though I have submitted road closures numerous times, by the next day Waze is back to routing traffic down it…

Michael, thank you for the relaying of the closure need. In-app closures are only set in one direction and are better handled directly through the Waze Map Editor (WME) platform as we can set the reason control the closure direction and duration down to the minute. The closures we also set there get replicated to Google Maps (live in approximately 30 minutes or so to the Live Traffic Layer).

Closure access is limited to editors rank 3 and higher (rank levels are reached via map editing), but we do have communication methods (faster typically than the forum) where you can relay a request to have a closure made. Our primary method is via Discord (regional server for the Plains states). You’re welcome to join via the invite link: https://www.discord.me/wazepln

I have set the closure you referenced and that should now be blocked off for routing for the next 8 weeks. If the Ottumwa Public Works Engineer/Official that’s responsible for tracking closures like this is agreeable more precise timeframe can sometimes be obtained from them. They also have the ability to relay closures directly to Waze staff OR to join a Waze for Cities program where they can manually/automatically add road closures to the system.

If you happen to hear about any upcoming scheduled closures we can also enter those in advance to go live the minute things are supposed to close preventing routing through everything from Parades/Festivals to Street Repairs and everything in between.

One question from me back to you, do you know if the intersections along the N Milner construction zone are being kept closed to traffic too? This refers to Chester and Hamilton primarily, but if the north and south ends are closed we’d need to know that too.

Thanks much again for taking the time and happy to work with you to help improve the routing through town!
