Hi there, I used to do all the roads when Waze had almost none in area I live. Before it got polished, the 3rd party map tiles were pushed and there was not much to edit afterall. Now everything is locked (lvl4), I cannot even post road closures (lvl3) which is strange as I’m lvl3… Anyways… Since the lane guidance is live in the UK, I was hoping to pop some of these in but… everything is… guess… locked away from me. I don’t know, if this would be possible, to unlock this area (or smaller if that’s the decision): https://www.waze.com/editor?lon=-2.07912&lat=52.56123&zoom=4#
Kind regards,

Hi there z00mb1e, firstly I can’t give a reason why you can’t add closures on roads that are L1-L3 locked as this should be possible as an L3 editor. I can ask to see if there is a reason.
If you would like to have a managed area around where you live you can apply to be an Area Manager, this allows you to keep an editable area without having to drive it. We don’t and can’t downlock areas, you can request unlocks for specific segments in the Editor Request Forum.
As for locking of roads, these are mostly auto locked based on how busy the roads are, only the top 2.5% are auto locked above L1. WME features can be restricted above a certain level depending on what the feature does and how critically it influences routing. These editor level restrictions are usually set by Waze Staff and occasionally adjusted based on each countries community feedback.
Lane Guidance mapping is currently restricted to L4 as the feature is still in development and has been released early to enable Staff to get more feedback with the massively reduced driving conditions. As with any open editable system there has to be a compromise between absolute freedom to edit and protect of the infrastructure from accidental / malicious damage.
