Unfortunately, you’ll need to report the red light cameras again via the client; they can’t be created in the map editor. Once you’ve reported them via the client and positioned them correctly in the editor, reply here with a Permalink to the cameras in the editor, and request that a Level 5 Editor lock the camera to prevent their deletion.
Some editors do have a habit of deleting cameras (even “approved” cameras) in certain states that do not permit and/or use them. New York is one of those states, with the exception that “up to 150 red light cameras” are permitted in the NYC metro area. Anywhere else in NYS, I do delete any and all red light cameras and speed cameras without hesitation; as for NYC, I tend to stay out of there as much as possible ;), as my primary focus is the Upstate area.
I had a lengthy reply but, your allowing this person to remove the “proper” red light locations goes against the programs design, and lowers confidence in users like me.
Why?..Because (1)I personally drove around and verified these red light cameras on the “ENTIRE BOROUGH”
(2) I’m also a moderator for “Trapster” and these are 100% verified locations again by me and “more than a handful” of Staten Islanders…
Good luck promoting your app when users of of “Waze” get tickets with your App and find out "Trapster had those locations correctly placed.
Thanks but I tried to help you guys out and verify for you, and allowing someone (or) anyone to do this to your program doesn’t make any sense…
You can promote me if you want so I can help in my area or not, Its not my rep…
Cycle201
First off, Waze’s primary function is not avoiding tickets, it’s getting from point A to point B as fast as possible - i.e. traffic avoidance. Gas Prices, Speed & Red Light Cameras are added features.
When you verified those locations, did you 1) Report the camera from the app and 2) Go into the editor and approve (and configure) the camera? Once a camera is approved, it is locked to the user’s editing level (and that lock level will increase as the user earns higher editing ranks). Have you read the Camera page of the wiki for information on how Cameras get created/approved/deleted in Waze? Have you talked with your local Area Manager(s)/a local Country Manager about these cameras disappearing?
The other thing you fail to consider is the fact that in may jurisdictions (including most of NY) photo enforcement is not legal. That does not stop users from reporting cameras that do not exist or aren’t actually cameras (see the Camera page of the wiki for what people THINK are cameras). I’ve seen Red Light Cameras reported on the Interstate (where there are no traffic lights), Speed Cameras reported on the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry path in the middle of Long Island Sound, and then there’s this one in the middle of a lake. We need the ability to remove cameras that aren’t really there.
There are a whole bunch of cameras on I-77 in Virginia south of I-81. I do not think they are approved by any one. Is the only way to remove is to get a level 1 editor to approve them and then drive past them and mark them as not there?
Sir:
I reported them via App, then approved the ones that were not previously reported thru update maps, This is not my first rodeo…I’m also a moderator for “Trapster” and these are 100% verified locations
Goodnight and good luck
Just covering the bases on the approval process, you’d be surprised how many people who don’t read the wiki - especially those with only a handful of forum posts (that one was your third post). This is why we ask those basic questions.
You never answered if you have talked with your local Area Manager(s)/local Country Managers about this issue. They may have better insight into why those specific cameras were deleted.
And so it begins again, Im checking the area map I’m responsible and finding red light cameras missing again???
I dont access to whos deleting them because WAZE does at their central computer, so someone higher up get on board and find out so I or YOU can contact them and ask WHY??? DELETING???
Cycle: in the event that you’re following this again, I thought I should point out that perhaps it’s not just the work of editors, but also drivers.
If enough drivers hit the “Not There” button in the client when the notice for the camera comes up, the camera is un-approved. Then, it looks again like a fresh report.
I’d recommend engaging the AMs in your area to see if they’re onboard with your system and plan…
