All on Hylan Blvd.

  1. Steuben St (both directions)
    2.Guyon Ave (both directions)
    3.New Dorp Lane (both directions)
  2. Huguenot Ave (both directions)
  3. Richmond Ave (both directions)
Anything you can do will be great or pass it up to a higher mod.
Enclosed photo is the notice in our lockerroom…

The last info we have is that New York State only permits Photo Enforcement of Red Light Violations - NOT speed limit violations. Please cite the STATE Law that allows for Speed Cameras.

Also, moving to the NY Forum.

Can you do the locking of cameras, I posted the perma links
Thanks

Locked.

I had to reposition most of them as you had them facing the wrong way on the segments.

I have them aimed at vehicles coming towards them, Why would you turn them away from the flow of traffic, There the same as radar detectors, Point at target and get speed.

In Waze, the camera (speed, red light) has to face the direction of travel on that segment to alert. The app will not alert to cameras facing the wrong direction. This is so when only one direction of travel is monitored, Waze alerts in the proper direction - OR when both directions are monitored, you only get one alert (for your direction of travel).

You can take a speed reading with a radar/laser from the rear of a vehicle too, you probably have access to a radar/laser gun - try it one day.

WIKI should be changed to reflect the Difference between SPEED and RED LIGHT Cameras.

But both should be oriented in the same way in the waze map editor.

Unfortunately thats not real world…

Red light cameras (generally) are after the violation and take a photo of offending vehicle and its location.

( www.nhtsa.gov “The rear photograph must show the vehicle on the road and include a legible depiction of the vehicle’s rear license plate. Most mobile units take one rear photograph, but many fixed ASE units, take two photographs when a violation is detected; the photos show the distance that the alleged violator traveled over a short period of time, which can be used as an additional verification of the re-corded speed. In jurisdictions where driver identification is required, ASE units also photograph the front of the vehicle. The front photograph must include the driver’s face and might also include the front license plate”)

Speed cameras and Lidar are pointed AT offending vehicles (generally)

( www.nhtsa.gov “Speed-Measuring Speed-measuring requires the ability to detect and discriminate individual vehicles on a roadway and measure their speeds in real time. This can be achieved using above-ground equipment aimed at traf-fic (e.g., radar or lidar) or in-ground sensors (e.g., piezo/loop detection). Speed-measuring using above-ground equipment requires a view of the target vehicle with limited obstructions such as road-side vegetation or other vehicles in the line of sight.”

Please change them to reflect properly the way I had them…
Facing traffic…

And some were deleted ?!?!??!

If we put them that way in Waze, they WILL NOT ALERT. In Waze the camera MUST be oriented with the red dot facing the direction of travel. This is how the system matches up the direction of the user’s travel with the direction of travel the camera is monitoring & will then alert to user.

From the software’s perspective, it doesn’t matter if the camera takes a photograph of the front or rear of the vehicle - it only matters which direction of travel the camera is monitoring and if a Wazer is traveling in that direction.

If thats how it has to be then oK, but the perma links listed have cameras missing, can someone add the corrections, should be 2 at each location.

Thanks

Waze isn’t taking the pictures for enforcement. As long as you get alert for camera(s) at the intersection for the direction of travel, one is enough. Think you reading to far into this.

Your recent permalinks don’t work - they were copy & pasted as text, which puts the … in the middle of the URL, breaking the link. Cameras have to be added in the app & configured in the editor.

Actually there needs to be two at each location - one for each direction of travel that is monitored.

Correct…I had 2 at each before it was locked

@Andy Pom, Some more changes have to be made, some speed cameras have been moved to appropiate locations as per New Law that requires them to be-
1- within 1/4 mile of school
2- and only on school days
3- and 1/2 hr before, and 1 hr after school activities (note: approx 7am-6pm on school days)

Here are the current locations ((( Because im doing this on my phone, no perma links until i actually drive by and report these locations))
Others currently on map will have to be moved or deleted…to proper locations

1- Forest Ave: Van name to MLK Expwy (PS 22) Mobile Camera Updated today not in place
2- Hylan Blvd at Tysens Lane (Richmond town Prep) Dual Red/Speed Camera (( Currently under dispute because school has moved students?)**
3- Rockland Ave: Cooper Terrace to Borman Ave ((No school, under despute) Mobile Speed camera [b]Updated today, not in place[b]
4- Victory Blvd: Fairview Ave to Albert St (PS29) Mobile Speed Camera Updated today, Not in place
5- Victory Blvd: Royal Oak Rd to Fiarview Ave (PS92) Mobile Speed Camera
6- Midland Ave and mason Ave (IS2, PS38) Stationary Unit…In Place
7- Midland Ave: Freeborn St to Hylan Blvd (PS38) Mobile Speed Camera Updated today, Not in place
8- New Dorp Lane: Weed Ave to Hylan Blvd (New dorp hs) Mobile Speed Camera… Updated today, Not in place

I will try to place these locations today if they are here, just need you to lock them and remove any others after i put those locations up here for you level 5 or 6 to lock

Thanks Cycle201

Mobile speed cameras have to be reported through the WME client as hidden police officers, and re-reported if they get “not-there-d” off the map. It’s not an ideal situation, I know, but the camera warnings take too long to propagate through the WME/build/distribution system and can easily be moved during that process.

Depends on how portable they are, of course. If they are going to be left in a single place for a month, or will rotate through only a couple of locations regularly, we should probably set it up as a cam.

BTW, re-reading this thread, I really wish Waze would change the way the “direction” GUI works. They should have the cam appear flat (doesn’t look like it is facing any direction), with an arrow going through it, like a weathervane. That way, it will be clearer that the arrow is the direction of traffic, and not the direction the cam is facing.
