US County Overlays

Version: 2.1

As some of you may have seen I have been working on County overlays for the US.
I just finished generating an overlay for every state and for some of the US territories.
If you have any of these overlays installed please verify that you have version 1.9+ installed.
I changed some of the text in the header so you might need to reinstall at greasyfork.
Also I was not able to test all of these so please let me know if there are any issues.
Thanks
Rick Zabel

Great addition!

And thanks for the work, this had to have taken quite some time!

One request - Can you have it so the script remembers when you have it turned off? Every new tab or reload loads it up, and a lot of the time I am not in the state…

Or even better would be a interface on the left (as if there aren’t enough…) with a dropdown to select the data you want. That way as a CM I wouldn’t need to install one for each state.

Just ideas… Again, great work and thanks!

Awesome job Rick. Thank you for all your work.

Thanks Rick.
Skidooguy tampermonkey, press the green button hahaha… i kid i kid

Considering the size of the original files i dont think you want all of these running at once anyway.

Thank you for doing this! Very helpful.

Scroll through over 80 scripts to find the right one!?!?!?! I’ll tell you what, you can come do it for me.

I would assume there is a way to only have the one you have selected turned on.

But am no script writer.

Honestly the behaviour you described is from the original script that these were based off and I never was able to figure out how to make the toggle stick.

When I first tried making a US / county overlay the size of the file lagged waze to the point of making WME unusable. That is when I decided it would prob be best to split them up by state, since then I also discovered that greasyfork has a limit on how many characters a script can have. Which both Texas and Alaska surpassed so I had to use lower resolution data for those two states.

Thank you!

Would you mind fixing the spelling of Florida? (for search purposes)

Fixed.

Great! Although we’re gonna have to rename it US Parish Overlays for Louisiana

Thanks for the hard work Rick

Sent from under my bed.

I keep getting this: http://prntscr.com/83eshv

Did you remove the old one we had?

I seemed to have undone some of the changes we worked on during the FL raid. Try the current version 2.0 and let me know if you still have issues.

anyone else with this issue please let me know what areas.

Actually, considering they are separate scripts, it should be very easy to change any instance of the word “County” to “Parish” in the Louisiana script. If you wouldn’t mind

Also, I’ve done my own personal modification that changes the formatting to “Orleans Parish - New Orleans, Louisiana”, but IMO it might make even more sense to do “New Orleans, Louisiana - Orleans Parish”. Just worth considering.

Deleted, and installed 2.0. Will let you know if it acts up, thanks!

Thanks for this, while simple, it has to be one of the most useful scripts for SMs in particular.

Not sure that it would be any easier (or better), but could it be done by region? That way small states could be combined and AK & TX split in two without losing the detail?

I actually split these up automatically in Qgis for rick. The kml files were easy to divide up into state because of the fields that were provided.

The same files can be used to make overlays for WMEGeometries so if you want just a few counties you can download the file and split them up on your own. You can select any county in the country and overlay it onto wme very easily once you learn how to manipulate them in QGIS.

I’ll be making one for how to split up the file for the counties but for now here are some QGIS google slides tutorials i made that might shed some light on the process. the KML files are a little different in query builder, you have to use “DESCRIPTION” and an sql query to get them to query the fields unless you convert to geojson or shp first.

Set Up QGIS

FL FC overlays

census.gov overlays for “places” (cities towns and CDP’s)

I thank HavanaDay for teaching me the basics of QGIS and getting me started with using QGIS.

Thanks again, without your help I would of never gotten around to making these!
