Various L4 update requests in Victoria, BC

I’d like to request to have a handful of lane guidances looked at in the Victoria area.

  1. Millstream to McCallum left turn (described in note): https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=48.45976&lon=-123.49736&zoomLevel=19&mapComments=297976
  2. Esquimalt Rd right turn onto Head St lane config should be left/straight right (only 2 lanes): https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=48.43082&lon=-123.40043&zoomLevel=19&segments=538396901

Apparently I’m a new user so I can only put 2 links in this post, so I will comment with the other 2 requests

Thanks in advance!

  1. WB Fort @ Richmond has 3 lanes: left turn / straight / right turn. The right lane is also a straight lane, but for busses only. I don’t know how this is supposed to show up in Waze: https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=48.42978&lon=-123.32957&zoomLevel=20&segments=540784694
  2. SB Wharf @ Fort is only 1 lane (both left and straight): https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=48.42450&lon=-123.36907&zoomLevel=19&segments=514136282

I’ve updated all except the first. I’ve asked @BryceCampbell to take a look.

It probably wasn’t configured to push the instruction, have you been through since March 16? Or more particularly March 26?
If not since the 26, it should be resolved now.

I drove to Costco yesterday and everything looks good now, thanks!

There’s an issue still with request #2, the lane config should be L | straight/right, not left/straight | right. I think I was a bit unclear in my original request.

Perfect!

gotcha.
I’ll update that and it will get included in the next update.

Thanks all. @ricepirateee please mark this thread as resolved.

Looks great, thanks!!

Not sure if I should create a separate thread for this, but I’m also hoping to get the Douglas/Gorge/Hillside/Government intersection guidance looked at. I’m not sure how things are for any different paths, but when heading on Government (N) → Douglas(N)/Hillside(E), the guidance at this segment isn’t all that useful: https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=48.43732&lon=-123.36685&zoomLevel=19&segments=537166898

Basically, leading up to point B in this segment, guidance was telling me to “slight right”, and then once I hit this segment, it gives lane guidance like this:

The lane guidance is correct, but IMO, drivers should see this guidance in the previous segment as well, to give enough time for drivers to get into the correct lane.

For example, if I want to do Government (N) → Hillside (E), I need to be in the right lane, but guidance doesn’t tell me that I need to be in the right lane until here, which is too late. This is less of an issue if I’m doing Government (N) → Douglas (N) as I can be in either the middle or right lane, but I think it would still be useful to show that I can be in either lane.

Let me know if that makes sense.

Thanks,
Derek

We can do it here

I think I understand - so perhaps something like below?
Changed the turns and straights instead of the slights And they will PUSH through to their final turn.

I’d like also get the viewpoint of two other locals, @colton_w and @ThatVictoriaGuy

it looks good from my perspective, but I don’t really know what I’m looking at from the editor so I’ll just have to test the intersection once it’s published in a couple days  but open to feedback from others in Victoria! Thanks again

Hey, I was driving past this intersection today, and guidance still isn’t exactly what I had in mind.

First test is from NB Government → NB Douglas. As you can see below, I’m prompted to “slight right” onto Douglas, and then shortly after, told to take the slight left (center and right lane)

In my opinion, the first “slight right” guidance isn’t necessary. If I want to end up NB Douglas, Waze should tell me to be in the center or right lane, then take the slight left onto Douglas. It’s less of a “slight right” and more so “don’t into the left lane”:

The same goes for NB Government → EB Hillside. I got the below guidance, but in reality, I just need to see the second one (slight right):

Lastly, I would even argue that the leftmost lane (which turns left on Gorge Rd E) shouldn’t even be part of the guidance for NB Douglas / EB Hillside, since the road already splits off here:

I’m open to ideas of how this should be configured in Waze, but it’s slightly misleading when I’m past the split and it’s showing that there’s 3 possible lanes. I think this is what I should see if I’m being directed NB Douglas (even hundreds of meters back):

Thanks again for looking into this, and open to your thoughts and comments.

apologies for the delay - was away for the start of April.

But I thank you for the details - I am very certain I understand what your trying to convey.

Only one I’m torn on is the left movement to Hillside Ave and Gorge Rd E - I do think the having the full lane count there is still valuable.

But I think getting rid of the second lane guidance prompt at Douglas is whats needed here. Like you’re still going to see the Purple route path, but it will be s singular lane guidance/prompt.
So I have changed for that - it will get pushed to the tile build tomorrow and be in the app for Monday, probably even Saturday/Sunday.

So we can see how the singular Push instruction works and go from there.
