Hi mates,

we’re recruiting for our Australien Manager Team:

We have a vacancy in our Australia State Managers Team, looking for a State Manager for VIC

State Managers are Mapping experts responsible for their own State, mentoring, map security, State communities, etc…

On appointment you will get access to the complete area of VIC and, if you are not already, you will be promoted to L4 (regardless of points and edits)

So, how does this sound in your ears? Willing to take the job? Think you’re up to the task?

Well, we told you, what we offer, now here’s the backside of the coin, what do we in return expect from you:

  • mapping expert: we’re talking of skills here, quality and knowledge beats pure quantity of edits
  • contribution to the community: that’s no job for a lone wolf, you have to be in touch with the community, so participation in the forum is the key. Again here, pure numbers are not enough, we’re looking for quality
  • teamwork with the Australian Managers: as you know there is a Mapraid coming up in Melbourne, we expect you to put some weight into getting this done well and beneficial for all participants. It will also be the final exam, where you can demonstrate, if you have, what it takes to keep a whole state together

And how exactly do we apply. This is a position I wouldn’t mind aiming or applying for. Was trying to get edits up to unlock lvl 3 and have been driving to various points around town to fix reported errors and to pave new roads and estates.

Well I’ve sent in a request, but it is a long process I’m guessing, which I can understand and I can appreciate. Thinking about applying for an AM in the mean time so I don’t have to keep requesting unlocks for roads I drive on when I know there’s something wrong and I can fix the issue.

Not trying to single anyone out, everyone makes mistakes (even I have a few that I can own up to).

But this is one of the main reasons I’ve asked to become an AM of this area and why I’ve applied for the Vic State Manager position.

I do drive up to Bendigo every now and then and it would be nice if WAZE could direct me around town without taking detours it doesn’t need to because turn restrictions are set wrong and have been for nearly a year in this case.

I’ve picked up lots of errors in the Bendigo region and have been lucky enough to be able to edit them as the highways aren’t locked to lvls they should be (which has been good so I can fix the issues) and it is an area I have driven to in the past 3 months. Plus I’ve been naming all the roads that isayisail has taken the time to add in that weren’t there.

I do understand that picking a State Manager is big decision, however, I haven’t heard anything about my AM area requests yet either.

Don’t want or mean to be pushy, I just want to help make WAZE better and accurate. :smiley:

  • There were other issues at that intersection, I have fixed it all now though.

In defense of above editor, Waze editor was very different then

If you had to use the editor back then you would know why there were problems

Well, that is what this post was about. They do need one and I am either on here almost every day and usually if I’m not on here, I’m out driving and mapping new areas.

As for the image about the error from 2012, my point certainly wasn’t to have a go at the editor who made the segments (and as I’ve only started editing in the last few months, I have no idea what the editor use to be like) and I’m sure the creator of the segments wasn’t a lvl 3 when the segments were created either. My point was purely, that these issues exist and have gone unnoticed until I happened upon them. Now some of them I can edit and fix as I have been to that area in the last 3 months, but for roads that are locked or just out of my available edit area as I haven’t driven there, they’re going to stay incorrect until someone else discovers they’re wrong, or, I get the chance to look at them by being an AM of that area (which I have applied for) or if I was SM, I’d be looking at whatever I could to fix issues all around Victoria.

The way the system works for lvl’ing isn’t truly accurate. If I wanted to, I could be a lvl 3 editor by the end of the week if not the night. It wouldn’t be hard to cheat the system to get edits, but that’s not what I want to do or how I want to do things. I want to either earn the right to be a lvl 3 or 4 editor, or be granted the privilege by becoming an AM of various areas or SM so I don’t have to keep asking for unlocks for things I know how to fix.

As I’ve said before, I see an issue, I want to fix it. Constantly having to ask for Unlocks to fix U.R.s can be annoying, especially if there’s no-one online when I am who can unlock or they haven’t seen my Unlock Request in the forum. Or, if as the forum states, the higher lvl fixes the problem themselves to save having to unlock to a lower lvl, which in turn, fixes the problem, which is my main aim, but also takes away valuable edits I could have got and had tried to do.

Getting to 15K edits when having to always ask for unlocks and then not getting the access, can make you get a bit frustrated with the system. However, that being said, pretty much everyone who sees my Unlock Requests, does lower the lvl for me now as I have established some edit cred (so to speak) and the more experienced editors know, I am here to help and I follow the rules when posting in the forums and doing my edits and I thank the users and mark the issues as solved (or at least I believe I follow all the rules with posting and editing - plus, I’ve read all the Wiki links I’ve been sent).

Definitely. Hence why I’ve requested for an AM position in 2 areas around Bendigo and 1 around my local area here (though I probably didn’t cover all the areas locally that I could look after. i.e. most of the Eastern Suburbs and Dandenong Ranges).

There appeared to be a delay, unsure why?

In NZ the application gets entered into a google sheet and I get an automatic email.

Unsure what happens in Oz.

In my experience it can take a week or two. Same delay if you later want to expand your area as well.
