One should be able to use Waze as a single person. When I’m driving and stuck in traffic I often press the route button to see if there’s other routes. However the app suggests I jump in HOV lane (ie carpool lane) but I’m only the I’m the only person in the vehicle so I can’t do that. As all the times it presents are based on the fact that you are in the HOV lane where in fact I can’t get in the HOV lane so I don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to get to my destination. there should be a way to tell Waze there’s only one person in the vehicle so they don’t suggest such a silly option without any alternatives
There is a “avoid toll road” switch and “avoid ferries” switch and their very well should be an “avoid carpool lane” switch.
This way if you’re a solo driver waze does not suggest you get into the carpool lane because you simply cannot get into the carpool lane unless waze is going to pay your traffic ticket for doing so
Please add a switch alongside the “avoid toll road” switch and “avoid ferry switch” please add something in there so that waze does not try to route you on to, or send you on a high-occupancy vehicle HOV 4 carpool lane.
Wendy’s things you can get into the carpool lane when you can it will give you the incorrect time to your destination which is very important if you’re trying to make meetings on time
thank you
Where does this happen?
In the areas where I edit, the Waze map is configured so that drivers are not routed into dedicated HOV lanes at all, during the hours that restrictions are in effect.

My issue is a bit different I have the opposite problem I live in CA, USA (los angeles/orange county) and more often than not when im driving solo (by myself, with no other passengers) - all of the 3 proposed routes by waze tells me to get into the carpool / HOV lane. I cant do this without getting ticketed by the cops, furthermore there should be a button or a switch in the waze app… kinda like the “avoid toll road” switch which would forbid waze to suggest any route that involves one getting into the HOV/Carpool lane.
The specific problem is there is no way to tell/use ways when operating as a solo driver which is stupid. Another solution would be when you start waze for it to ask you how many people are in the car. Im all for safety but seriously when in gridlock traffic - you are stopped most of the time, so i just hit “im the passenger” when i start waze and am on the road… but even when you set your destination while parked, then proceed it still thinks im able to enter the carpool/hov lane. there are no time resurrections for most HOV lanes per say but it is MANDATORY for there to be at least 2 people in the car to use the HOV/carpool lane in CA. So when im driving solo and it suggests using carpool/HOV lane its really useless as i cant take any of the proposed routes.
Welcome to the Waze forums…
I’ve already responded in one of the other threads because I saw it there first. I’ve also brought this up with tonestertm, one of our CA State Managers.
