For everyone who has wondered why we are marking tunnels…
According to the Waze official blog and news articles, Waze is testing a tunnel solution in the Fort Pitt and Liberty tunnels in Pittsburgh (as well as in other parts of the world).
The signals from this beacon allow the Waze app (or any other app that wants to use the beacons) to figure out where you are in the tunnel and how fast you are going, even though your phone is not receiving any GPS signals.
Wazers in Israel have already reported that these beacons are working in Israel.
