Waze diverting for no apparent reason

Some of us Dallas editors have occasionally run into URs where the reporter apparently got routed off of a main road and back on for no apparent reason (too awkward to be traffic diversion) (here is an example at this intersection in Dallas). Nothing appears to be off about the intersection, but you’ll see the URs in that area (seems to be the same person submitting multiple URs) that Waze took them off of the frontage road, made them uturn at Lemmon, then put them back on the service road. (You’ll notice jstrangfeld recently edited some of the segments in that area; he didn’t change any turns - he changed a lot of the frontage roads from service roads to streets).

I believe jstrangfeld has another recent example from another area of a UR he’s working on - maybe he’ll post the permalink here  .

Any thoughts?

This has been a known issue, reported by other editors too.I believe Waze is aware of this issue.

About to close shop for the day so I dont wanna start digging for the UR but save to say we probably all seen them along with the turn right make a u-turn to end up going the way you would have gone if you had taken a left in the first place.

I know it had been an issue for a while Pijasl but I guess I dont recall seeing a “here is what you respond” and/or “we are closing the UR as solved/unidentified” apologize if I missed it…

I just corrected what sounds like the same issue on Macarthur Blvd in Irving. The source of the problem there was a section of the road marked as no “turns” allowed, so Waze had to route around it. There was also a road segment connected to nothing that was hiding the problem segment, so once I realized there were two pieces on top of each other, I was able to correct the problem and delete the unnecessary segment.

Good job on that one, but I have continued to find occurrences of this behavior here and there with no logical explanation. Here is one example- I even had CBenson look at it (who is considered a “Navigation / Routing Expert”) and in his words, it is “a mystery” why this is occurring. Feel free to look at it and give your input…

Of course, no sooner do I say that and find my own strange routing that I can’t solve. Here’s my example.

In your case, shadoh, it looks like MisterTodd performed a lot of edits on May 12. Has that resolved the issue? When I search for directions on the livemap, it seems to come up with the correct route.

MisterTodd and I (and several other DFW editors) recently made whole lot of changes in DFW due to the new Functional Classification standards Waze has been adopting. The changes he made there were likely to change street types (likely he changed Forney Rd from Street to Primary Street). That wouldn’t be related (in fact, it’s even more odd that it would take me off of a route going straight, on the same street, in favor of making me take an unnecessary detour, down to a street, then back to a primary street). I agree that Live Map routes straight through, which makes it even more mysterious. :?:

This has been an issue for while in the houston area and seems to be getting worse for some reason. It will take people off the road, go to the next junction and send them right back on the road that they were on. For a while I was thinking it was from se of the FC changes but some of these roads were changed weeks ago and still getting reports in different areas.

Check these two permalinks out. I have not been able to find the reason for diverting around this section.
