I just upgraded ti iOS6, so I don’t know if this is an iOS thing, a new Podcast app thing, or a Waze thing, but starting this morning, my podcast audio seems to get auto-paused whenever Waze needs to tell me something. This would be fine, but it doesn’t unpause automatically.
I was facing same problem when connecting my iPhone4 to my car audio, waze always pause my music when there is an alert. My solution go Settings -> Sound and turn off “Play sound to phone speaker”. Hope it helps.
When Waze has “play to speaker” turned on, iOS will automatically pause any other audio-playing app so that audio can be force-routed to the speaker, even if the podcast/music is already playing to the speaker. All audio pausing or fading out is a function of the OS, not the app. Apps which support resuming must put the small playing triangle in the status bar, so that iOS can give it the signal.
I don’t think this is true. I use the standard “Music” app to listen to music/audiobooks, with the sound being piped through the headphone jack to my cars speakers (via cable). With other apps (say, phone), the Music app is paused and the overriding audio comes through the car speakers. With Waze I have two options:
“Play sound to phone speaker” = OFF: Waze turns down the other audio but plays over it (so I miss a bit of song/book).
“Play sound to speaker” = ON: Waze pauses the other audio, but plays through the phone speaker which is hard to hear.
Again, other apps don’t do this. There must therefore be a way for Waze to pause the other audio but still go through the headphones.
I have an iPhone 4 with iOS6. I found that as long as I start the podcast or pandora first, then load waze, it will fade the audio down for alerts and directions.
If they are using the same output, iOS will do the fade out/in, regardless of output type. If “play to speaker” is selected in Waze sound settings, iOS will pause/stop the currently playing audio regardless of what output method is being used by another app. If the other app doesn’t support iOS resuming it, iOS won’t be able to.
I re-read your detail above and get it now. What Waze needs is to implement an option for “duck” or “pause” the other audio source. Based on what you’re listening to, you could select the one which works best for you. This request has been requested before and there may be a vote for it already. Go over to the client uservoice (sig) and do a search and add your vote if you find one.
