Waze VEOC for Hurricane Irma

The VEOC will be posting updates here for hurricane Irma. The storm has passed PR and VI and is just now starting to make landfall in FL.

Some quick stats on Irma. We have placed 433 shelters in 5 different states/territories. Most of these have been uploaded by Waze Staff. Push notification have been sent to App users in FL/GA/AL showing some of the shelter pins with instructions on how to find help. We already have closures in place in two different states/territories.

More updates as the storm passes unless I lose power/internet. In Northern GA so will have to wait and see. Stay safe everyone.

The VEOC is now doing a transition from Hurricane Harvey related events to dealing with Hurricane Irma. The SCR is going to pull back tracking of Hurricane Harvey related events into their region. As of this posting over 2,500 total closures processed. They still have around 140 closures in place. Some will be long term some will be in place short term as waters continue to recede.

As for Irma here are the stats so far we have already processed 152 closures. We have opened 24 back up. This is just the beginning of the process for the SER. The storm in over FL now and heading towards AL/GA. We have now processed over 690+/- shelters for app users to use trying to get away from the storm.

Sorry for the delay in updates. I was affected by Irma with power loss and 3 large oak trees down over fencing. Thankfully the only damage seen so far was to the fencing. Everyone and everything else is fine. Have power back and trying to catch up on everything and still do clean up from all the small branches and leaves all over the place.

As for Irma, We have processed over 700 shelters. We are working with Waze HQ to keep the list current with shelters that have room for people. Marking the ones that are full/closed so Waze can removed them from the app as an option.

For closures So far we have added 970+/- closures. If the 970 we have opened back up 450. We still have 486 closures in place. Most are for down trees and/or power lines. At one point there was around 9 million people without power due to Irma. Some new closures are being added as the waters recede and rivers/streams start to rise.

The VEOC could still use help checking the remaining closures to see if they can in fact be opened. You do not need edit access in the area to help.

Thanks to EVERYONE who has helped in any manner. We could not have done this alone.

Sorry for the delay in updates. Been busy with cleanup which is still not done and paying job.

As for Irma, We have processed over 700 shelters. We are working with Waze HQ to keep the list current with shelters that have room for people. Marking the ones that are full/closed so Waze can removed them from the app as an option. We are now in the process of marking the ones closed as people leave or get moved to other locations.

For closures So far we have processed 1,060 +/- closures. Of the 1,060 we have opened back up 1,020. We still have around 40 closures in place. Most are for down trees and/or power lines. At one point there was around 9 million people without power due to Irma.

The SER will be pulling support for the remaining closures and shelters back into the SER. We would once again like to thank everyone for their assistance during this event.
