Dear All
There are many roads locked in the city of cairo while they are not fully rightly adjusted and now you can see the automatically detection catching it up bit by bit. Please do not lock the roads unless it has been confirmed that it is drivable and all the restrictions, junctions and missing roads are sorted. It is easier for a local to figure out the problem without having it detected automatically after a long time (I my self used the app to report problems in locked areas as I could not do it myself, Heisa123 can recall that, as he was the one locking and fixing my reported problems).
I would be greatful if there is any comments or clarifications that might help me be convinced that it is better locked than not.
regards
Bahubaish
There is virtually no way in Cairo locked.
I have reviewed, with the script.
Only the highway is locked after it was repeatedly vandalized.
Even parts of the higway had disappeared.
What can happen is that a road is repaired by a Wazer with a higher level.
When the road is already locked will remain locked and with a higher level.
I refer you to the separate section on the forum.
Unlock request.
On changing the highway I keep monitoring.
All ramps are ready.
George
Hi Bahubaish,
at this moment I haven’t lock any segment in Cairo, but thats because I’m mostly editing the little streets :
https://world.waze.com/editor/?lon=31.26518&lat=30.12213&zoom=6&layers=BFTFFTFTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFT
There will be a lot of roads that must be fine-tuned later on, so it’s better that the segments are not locked.
But as mentioned by Heisa before, sometimes it’s necessary to prevent segments so they cannot by vandalized or deleted. As this happens too a little street it’s not a “big deal”, but if it happens to High-ways or Major Streets than it can give a lot of problems for the routing, and it is a waste of time for the editor who put a lot of hard work in it.
In these cases I think a lock is justified, I also understand that it is sometimes not easily when you want to edit segment, but if you do an unlock request the team will do their best to unlock the requested segments as soon as possible ofcourse ! ![]()
Keep up the good work ! ![]()
Dear George, Patrick
Many thanks for your quick reply. I was busy the last few days and did not see your comment until now. it is completely clear for me now as I had this issue of my roads that I had worked on has been vandalized and then even locked
(that was George who locked after changing TR and others) but yet again I understand that you are all not locals and working according some guidance (not sure what exactly) and appreciate that your are trying to help the egyptian community by carrying out this awesome work. I just wish that I reach level 5 ASAP to be able to vandalize all your work
but to make all the TR and roads correctly. I do not tend to make a huge edits in areas that I am not familiar with unless it is clear or there is no roads in those areas im editing not to vandalize anyones work.
Regards
Bahubaish
Heya, I’m Maarten, another Dutchy to complement the Dutch team working on the Egypt map
I’ll be working on creating the initial map for Port Said / Port Fuad ![]()
Welcome Maarten!
Welcome Maarten,
Nice work in Egypt. You can release your imagination on this city.
The road from Port Said to Cairo, Suez, Alexandria and Gaza is ready.
So Port Said is one of us.
Thank you for your contribution
George
Hi all,
I just get an area from Alexandria to Cairo (both included).
I’m excited to help in this wonderful country (went to Alexandria and Cairo for my job, and El Gouna for kite surfing  )
I noticed some discontinuities on majors in Cairo, I can start with that if you give me a green light!
Also, I can add the unlock and map update permalinks in toolbox. Let me know.
Are there specific rules for editing in Egypt? Thanks.

Hi dummy

Hello everyone,
My name is Bassem, Waze name is Al-Janoubie, which mean “a man from the south”.
I spent half of my life in “upper Egypt”, now I live in the capital (Cairo) since 20 years.
I’m new to Waze… Just downloaded the app few days ago…
As an IT, I fall in love with waze idea, but the map was very poor and need a lot or work.
So, I started editing my aria next day of downloading the app.
Trying to teach myself how to be more accurate and less error who lead me to the forum and read this thread… I’m totally surprised to find the map of my country made by few individuals around the world who lived outside Egypt!!
I just want to say: Thank you… you done amazing work!
Welcome Bassem!
Nice to hear from you. There is a whole lot of help out here to get the Waze map better, but of course only local people know the roads for real.
There is a lot of help available, like a wiki: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Map_Editing_(new_Editor)
And I made a simple quick-start for international purposes, the most basic things for editing: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/User:Moweez/WME_Quick-Start
If anything, please feel free to ask.
succes!
Mo
Wellcome Bassem, if you want to start editing in an area you know ( just for starting) please send me PM and I will give you editing permissions overthere . Enjoy editing in WAZE

Thanks Mo,
I did read most of the waze wiki, blog and youtube videos… everything was clear & easy to understand for me (considering I’m interesting in street building/editing directions, not POI or complicated things)
So far, I can do more than needed for a base map… and if I need more, I read more…
thanks again for the wiki pages, it was very informative btw
Thanks Asterix,
the 1.6km around my visited way, gives me what i need to edit right now.
but if there is a way to resolve others requests / reporting map issues outside my current area, I would be happy to have access to the whole Egypt ![]()
Hello to you all,
My name is Karim, I’m 27 years old and live in Cairo, Egypt.
Thank you so much for the effort you have done till now to improve the Egyptian map, it’s really impressing how you could do all of that.
I’m new to Waze but I loved it since the first ride using it, the next day I became an editor and almost edit everyday.
If you need any support in any area in Egypt just contact me and I will do my best to help.
Great to see a new editor. I hope you like waze. There is a lot to edit in Cairo. you can always ask my direct to lower a lock.
Now we’re 3 editors (me, Al-Janoubie and Eldomyati) that know each other from Egypt, and we’re dividing greater Cairo on us so we can do better and faster map edits.I wonder if anyone is interested to join us?
