When can we expect to see our points?

I’ve been a member for 5 days, now. I’ve been driving every day using the app, I’ve graduated to “adult” and I’ve earned several hundred points. And despite the announcement that points would be delayed by 2 days until today when they would be live again, I still show zero points. Both in the app and on the website.

Much more of this and I’m going to lose interest altogether.

There are lots of posts about this around here.

Really, the main purpose of Waze is to help you get to where you are going while avoiding traffic. If you that you are concerned about is point, maybe you are using Waze for the wrong reason.

The points are there to get you to participate in the community by reporting road incidents and editing the map. The points will come, if they show today, tomorrow, or next week it doesn’t have any impact on using Waze to avoid traffic.

Check out status.waze.com as there is information there regarding points I believe. Waze is pausing some processes and not running them in real time right now so they can work on infrastructure upgrades, mostly to make updating code more efficient to handle higher volume of users.

Hey, I get it. I appreciate the value of the community-driven live traffic updates, etc. But as a new user I get all of these pop-ups saying I’ve earned all of these points; there are all of these prizes laying around begging me to collect them for their point values; there are all of these game center-like rewards for hitting various achievements; the interface talks about how to raise in the ranks and earn special bonuses for having the most points. And after a week I am still at zero. If I hadn’t come here I would never have known the system was being halted and all of the various other behind-the-scenes drama.

All I know is the app encourages me to earn points then refuses to give them to me with no explanation. Its about expectation and communication.

Peace.

Yep, you are correct. The points system almost never updates ever 24 hours - as promised. Waze is very aware of this. Now hopefully they actually will get it working the way that they advertise.

Months ago I suggested Waze remove ‘Updated every 24 hours’ from the Scoreboard. False advertising!

Welcome to Waze. All it not what it seems

I also had posted in a forum thread here that Waze should put a note on the current dashboards and scoreboards that point accumulation is delayed/disabled, whatever they are calling it. But they didn’t do that either.

I don’t think Waze understands that these things are extremely frustrating to their user base and so easily communicated. Really, how long does it take to manually modify some static html on the dashboard and scoreboards? Maybe .00001 % of Wazers comes to the Waze website, Waze Status page, and forums to find out why things are not working as they should.

Thanks, gettingthere. That’s exactly my point.

“Missing points or routes? please check our status page” <- This is on my dashboard page with a link.

Yes, but that is not viable for people who check their points ONLY from the Waze Application running on their smartphone. Most Wazers never get to the Waze website nor check their dashboard since that is not visible in the application. Only the Scoreboard can be viewed from within the Waze application.

In any case, why does the Scoreboard say ‘Updated every 24 hours’ when it almost never is updated in every 24 hours…

Shhhh, more secret stuff I found over on the French forum:

So, another old-timer Waze user - from Canada who joined before there were even base maps. I’m #3 in Canada, and #49 in the overall North America system… but yes, while I work in IT / the net and appreciate game mechanics and rewards (I got t-shirts, flags, suction dash-mounts and stickers, etc from waze) I also know that the primary reason I use it is to contribute as part of a crowd-sourced service.

THAT… said… I can TOTALLY feel the pain of newer users such as John (and trust me, there are plenty who are voting with their actions; i.e. leaving without nary a complaint or vocal expression of their frustration) and I think that Waze really needs to do whatever it can - and everywhere, the mobile App, the forum, etc. to mitigate the current “growing pains” vs. the promise of rewards.

Stay with us, new wazers.

Rob

It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that to get to the status screen (on Waze 3.0) is merely:
Menu->Settings->Help->About->www.waze.com (switching to browser)
Browse site->My Dashboard->status page

I’ll admit a bumpy road and traffic may make this a bit of a challenge. As for the 24-hour thing, I have always assumed that those were metric hours. I have no idea what the conversion rate is but I assume it is a large number.

Not secret that these can be viewed in a Smart Phone browser. But only the scoreboard is viewable within the Waze application itself.

Edit - ok, you can get to it via the klugey way above - still loads in a browser though.

I misunderstood this - I heard “the scoreboard is viewable ONLY within the Waze application”, not that ONLY the scoreboard, and NOT the dashboard, is viewable in the Waze app… if that makes sense?

I was just happy about the link so that, even when I’m not driving much, I can keep my eyes on the competition from the comfort of my Waze-editing cave.

Yea, sometimes I am not as clear as possible. Often I do the same as you, read too quickly and mis-interpret.

You can get to the dashboard too! Neat trick, remove scoreboard from the URL  US/Canada server link below.

Surely worth 1/3 of a belated point, or whatever points are given for forum posts. Can we charge Waze interest on the points that they owe us?

And here I thought the only way to get there was to click “My Dashboard” at the top of the page. Now I can make a bookmark or even better, just type it in each time. Wow! :o

Nothing to see here folks. Just a double post.

And if you click that mouse button twice, you get two posts - just like above

Crap, that’s the 2nd time tonight. Too much caffeine? Hmmm… No. Not enough beer.

Beer… Woohoo, brew day this Saturday! Another barrel of IPA goodness with friends.

(I am such a freakin’ threadjacker today.)

I am also a fairly new user and have the same concerns. the points etc… are the reason I participate, makes things a bit more fun. So far the points haven’t worked or me for more than a few days, the system hasnt learned my driving habits as it has stated it should etc…

If I was on just for navigation features I could use the free Google navi app which seems to be more reliable (doesn’t quit giving directions and showing the route midway through a trip) and gives better directions to start with.
