WME Satellite Imagery Update?

Hi, folks.

I know this may sound like a stupid question to ask. But i was just wondering how many months/years does it usually take for Waze to pull new data from Satellite (Imagery)?

Thanks, have a good day!

Anything from 6 months to over 10 years, its very random depending on area The imagery around Newark on Trent was more than 12 years old until it updated last year. I think @Ianinessex posted a thread about requesting up to date satellite imagery if needed.

If you haven’t already, this is also very useful: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/map-overlays/ggbadcghmcpofonkoeepddbabdkfbbia?hl=en
But of course remember you can’t use info from other map providers.

Thank you for the information, really appreciated. I will look into the link you have provided, and if i can find the post from Ian regarding this. Woah, so it just depends on the area but it that is a long time of 12 years to be updated. For myself, it seems the imagery was updated a couple of years back.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but I submitted a request for an area near me to be updated about 6 months ago and nothing happened.

Apparently this may change later this year, with a new route into Google to request this, but don’t hold your breath.

Thanks, Ian for the update. Hope, an update does come soon

Have a good day, all!

So what would you use it for then?

This is an interesting and delicate question. You can not use anyone else’s copyright map as a source of information to add to the Waze map.

However (in my opinion, and subject to being shot down by others!) you can use other sources to confirm details you already are aware of.

This is particularly relevant in the work we are doing on EV chargers. Waze have provided the basic data and we are adding (or not) the chargers from that. However we are using other data to check that they are actually there and in the correct place.

I often refer to other maps to see if they have a new housing estate drawn yet, and to check, if they have, that it is the same as the one I have just added. Of course if they have not done it yet, it makes me smile as we are (once again) one up of the competition. However if they already have it, then I get irritated as we missed it, so I guess it works both ways.

It was a tongue in cheek remark. The extension T&Cs say “Do not use layers for editing the maps unless you comply with the terms of use specific to each layer provider”
So yes, download this extension which is specifically designed for using other providers maps, but definitely don’t use other providers maps.
The first rule of Fight Club is…

Surely though even if using it to verify information that you’re already aware of, that would be classed as a “source of information”?
