How often is the map imagery updated?

There’s been some serious work done around the train & bus station in Bolton & it’s affected the roads. I’ve edited https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lon=-2.42689&lat=53.57631&s=607362327&zoom=6&segments=249185487 to a private road in order to prevent it routing people down there as it’s now the entrance/exit to/from the bus station but the map imagery needs updating to accurately reflect the changes.

Hi Joe
Last update was 4 Dec. Another one is due any minute, but the Waze team have been working on some other problems and so the updates have not been daily as is the plan.

You can check any time by clicking on “status” on the bottom left hand of the WME. We are on the INTL server.

I do believe Joe was refering to the Aerial Images. I’m not aware of any official update schedule.

So far the best plans I’ve found are on Flickr & from the Bolton News :frowning:

You can also see the new layout on the Bolton Council website map, you may need to search, zoom in, scroll.

Aerial images are supplied by Google and there is no update schedule. Google do not accept requests to update images, or even to re-align incorrect images.

Note that there are multiple Google “properties”. The images we see in Waze are the images that are visible when using satellite view in Google Maps. Google Earth may have different images due to licensing issues. The actual images are sourced from a variety of different sources. You will sometimes find that an image they can use in Google Earth does not have appropriate licensing to be made available in GMaps - and hence in Waze.

I’ve never found a good source to tell us when/where aerial images have been updated. I know that images to the west of London were updated a few months ago and images for the SW of England seem to have been recently updated. On the other hand, a major junction in Doncaster that was rebuilt in 2012 still shows the old layout.

Hello.

I have been keeping an eye on this area as I’m aware of the changes. I haven’t driven over that way for a while but I may be able to soon.

I had changed a few things around there recently, but I wasn’t sure what state the roads were in. I have few design drawings for this development as our company bid for the construction works back in 2011. Unfortunately, they don’t show anything that isn’t shown on the images posted by Chris and I have no idea if they were anything like the final design (we didn’t win the bid).

That said, I’ve disconnected Bollings Yard from Johnson St as I don’t imagine they’ll be linked now. I may even take a detour tomorrow and see what’s what.

Thanks
Andrew

Thanks for all the replies. I was referring to the aerial imagery.

I work right next to it & I can edit it to be correct but then it wouldn’t match the Google imagery hence my original question. Does that matter? Or is it better left as it is as long as people aren’t being routed incorrectly?

Cheers, Joe

Please edit it to match reality, the imagery is only there to help assist us editors in mapping. Wazers only ever see the colours of the App (segment lines and area places), no imagery is displayed to them.

Roger, will do.

Just a small point in this, once you are done, it is a good idea to add a comment box over the area explaining that the junction has been updated and is waiting for the aerial image to update. This stops any other editor thinking it is wrong and changing it back.
