Why for months playing it had me in WV and now out of the blue it put me in MD! I live in WV and do 95% of my driving in WV and am being scored against people in another state.
It is supposed to automatically put you in the state where you did the most driving that week. If that is wrong, email Waze support to let them know of the error.
It can change on a daily basis. Dutch superuser Robin1979 travels a lot to Belgium, and is hopping the scoreboards almost daily.

Been a month after the switch . Did a couple thousand in WV and only maybe hundred and fifty in MD, but it still lists me in MD.

to me that doesn’t make sense. i drive through many states. should it just list you in the state you live? or at least give you the choice of how you want to be listed?
You do have a choice - email Waze and they will lock you into the state of your choice.
