Does Waze pronounce (M5 S) as “M5 South” ? It’s not mentioned in the Suffix Abbreviation section.
Yes it does. Somethings to be aware of, “Dr” is Drive, “Dr.” is not. The same applies for “Saint” and street. When naming Freeways I stick to the full cardinal directions as opposed to the abbreviated version.
Ok, great, I’ll keep full for freeways and abbreviation for the other roads…
Why did they choose a long word as the act of shortening a long word or phrase. Face it, “abbreviation” is a really long word for it does. Itself end up being abbreviated ![]()

Lol. I see your point. In my opinion all of them should be the full name. I recall an issue ages ago with TTS where “N1 N” would be pronounced as “North One North”

LOL. and “Dr. Savage Dr” as “drive Savage drive” near Kolenade, Montana, Pretoria.

I fixed that this week. The current nomenclature is correct. The full stop after the initial Dr changes it from Drive to Doctor.

The full stop “.” has meaning now. Does a comma “,” and parenthesis “( )” have any particular function or meaning?

A comma no, parentheses are to add value to the road name if it has two names I.e “William Nicol Dr (R511)” This is generally used when in an urban area where an arterial route runs through.

I have a proposal for naming roads. It’s from my personal experience with driving and following of directions.
