Hello everyone!
My name is GisSchool, I am an L1 editor and I am trying to add a location at Pazzallo, but I receive the error “You do not have permission to make some changes”. It would be about adding the location of the school “GIS The International School of Lugano”.
Can I ask for support? And maybe even be supported by a mentor to learn how to edit correctly.
Thank you!
Hi GisSchool,
Welcome to the Waze Map Editors Community!
You will find that we are more responsive on our Discord server (Waze DACH)
Regarding your question about editing permissions: as a Level 1 (L1) editor, you can only make changes within your editable area. This area typically includes:
- The roads you’ve recently driven with Waze (usually within a 1-mile radius of your drives).
- Areas within a certain distance of those roads, which expands as your editing rank increases.
(Editable area).
If you try to edit outside your editable area, or on segments that are locked to higher-level editors, you’ll see an error like “You do not have permission to make some changes”.
For adding a place or location, however, there shouldn’t be an error message and you should be able to suggest an edit when you save. So perhaps you were trying to modify road segments instead of just adding the place?
For adding locations, you do not necessarily need to use the Waze Map Editor, you may also do it using the Waze App:
How to Add a Place Using the Waze App:
If you want to add a place (like GIS The International School of Lugano) directly from your phone, you can do so with these steps:
- Open the Waze app on your mobile device.
- Tap the search icon (magnifying glass) in the lower left corner.
- Tap “Add Place” or “Place” from the menu.
- Take a photo of the location (optional but recommended).
- Enter the name, address, and category of the place.
- Adjust the location on the map if needed.
- Tap “Done” or “Save” to submit.
Your submission will be reviewed by the Waze editor community, and you’ll be notified by email once it’s approved.
If you need more detailed guidance or want to be mentored, feel free to join our Discord, where chatting and helping is easier than the forum. Good luck with your edits!
Best regards,
Vincent
