Steps to reproduce this issue:
When typing Japanese using Romaji input (IME) in the “Add details” field of the Send for review dialog in WME, the input box sometimes closes unexpectedly during text composition.
This issue is intermittent. Sometimes I can type without any problems, but in my experience the bug occurs more often than not.
I have already reproduced the same behavior in both Chromium-based browsers and Firefox-based browsers, so it does not appear to be browser-specific.
I suspect the issue may be related to IME composition or the handling of multi-byte (2-byte) characters required for Japanese text.
Steps to Reproduce
Open the Send for review dialog in WME.
Click the Add details text field.
Switch to a Japanese IME and type using Romaji input.
During IME composition, the Add details input field unexpectedly closes.
Expected Behavior
The Add details field should remain open and allow uninterrupted Japanese IME composition and text entry.
Actual Behavior
The Add details field closes unexpectedly while composing Japanese text, causing the input to be interrupted or lost.
Thank you for reporting this issue. I have opened an internal ticket to look into this behavior.
When checking this on my end, I noticed that the window disappears whenever I attempt to select one of the suggested options, such as ‘mic’ > >
In my case, the field closes even before I have a chance to select any IME suggestions.
For example, if I want to type 「道路位置の修正」, I start by typing it with Romaji input. After entering just the second character (e.g. “do”), the Add details field closes unexpectedly.
Because the field closes at that point, the Japanese IME candidate/suggestion window never even appears, so I don’t get a chance to select any prediction candidates.
So the issue seems to occur during IME composition itself, rather than when interacting with the candidate list.
Thank you your reply @rib3ru.
Can you please let me know your device’s operating system?
Is there a chance you could provide a screen recording showcasing the behavior you are experiencing?
I’m not sure if this sharing method will work on our end, but I will check if I get the same outcome as you described on Windows 11. (I checked this previously on macOS.)
Update: I managed to view the video, thank you for recording it.
As for your question, I don’t recall seeing any review requests with incomplete descriptions because of this issue. There are very few active editors in Japan, so it’s hard to tell whether others have been affected.
Personally, I found typing the review details frustrating from the very beginning. In some cases, I copied and pasted the text instead. When I had to submit many review requests, I sometimes entered only the required two English characters so I could submit them as quickly as possible.
For me, another inconvenience is that only 10 review requests can be pending at the same time. Since I often reach that limit, having to type detailed descriptions every time I send a review request makes the process even more cumbersome.
