Advice please - Roadworks

There are quite a few UR’s in central London that have been there for sometime, reporting roadworks and road closures etc.

Is there anything I can do to help with these as a L2 editor? I’ve left them so far, as I’m not exactly sure what I can do to help, plus I don’t want to be adding tons of errors and mistakes to the map.
I’ve mainly stuck to sorting issues out in my local area and areas that I’ve driven and know well, but I’m a little short on UR’s at the moment.

Advice, greatfully received, feel free to PM me too.

Richard

Hi Richard, thanks for asking. Have you seen the guide to editing at https://www.waze.com/wiki/UK_Quickstart? Far too much to absorb in one go, I know!

Are these “genuine” UR’s reporter by users, or are they Waze editor comments preceded with a tag like [NOTE] or [ROADWORKS]? If the latter, no action is needed. You can make the difference obvious by installing the URO+ script on your browser. The script will change the icon displayed for editor’s fake UR’s, and can be used to suppress them altogether (although I wouldn’t recommend that).

If they are genuine UR’s that no other editor has picked up, then your help would be most welcome. There’s some advice on UR protocol in the Wiki.

As a L2 editor operating in London, you will find that many busy roads have been “locked” by the system to protect them. If you want to edit or close, just post a new topic to the UK editor requests forum. Read the posting guidelines first; you will see that your request should include an explanation of what you want to do and why, which will enable a senior editor to check that you are on the right lines.

You mention roadworks and road closures specifically, normally we would try to check these with another source. roadworks.org is useful in many areas, but London seems to have it’s own version.

Happy editing,
Ian

Ian,

Thanks for your reply. I’ll answer each comment separately.

I’ve seen the guide and I try to be quite active, helping out where I can.

They are genuine UR’s not [NOTES] etc. (I have the UR+ script running)

I use the correct protocol for UR’s, as directed by the wiki.

I’ve often used the unlock request section for downlocks to edit various things.

I wasn’t aware of the London roadworks website, I shall check that out and try to match up UR’s to roadworks.
Is this the correct wiki guidance to follow for road closures? https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Real_time_closures

If that is the correct guidance, I can view closures but that is the only option it gives me?

Richard

Sounds like you’re doing a grand job.

Inputting closures is restricted to Area Managers (AM’s) and a few senior editors. There’s advice on becoming an AM here. In the meantime, you can post closure requests to the same forum as you are using for unlock requests.

Happy Wazing,
Ian

Ian, thanks for your reply.

Ah I had a feeling it would only be AM’s that could add closures. I’ve read the requirements for becoming an AM. Need about 2 months more experience under my belt before applying.

Will see what ones I can help out with.
