School Area (Permanent Alert) (LV4+)
\nIf I keep adjusting it, it will have to be every year, so I’ve already prepared it for 5 years.\n
\n\nNo problem, it would be one change per year and only on the calendar, and it will reflect in all schools. \nNow, to reflect the new Carnival date from the calendar you created, you have to change the “national calendar” in all the schools that were using the old one.

You don’t even need to adjust the current calendar every year; you can include the “movable holidays” for the next 30 years if you want. You just need to have the time to get around to doing it

The important thing to remember is that updating a calendar already associated with multiple school areas will update the schedules for all of them without needing to edit them one by one.

Is anyone using the calendar? I need to delete it and it’s linked to some area.

@marxmr just to clarify, as I haven’t studied the subject yet since editor level [3] doesn’t allow this feature: can I use a calendar created by you? Or when you create a calendar in WME, is it available to all editors in the area?

It is available nationwide or in the states linked to the calendar.

OK, thank you very much for the clarification.

I wanted to revisit this topic, School Area, as I have one more question about the name. Although it might not be that relevant, since it’s not a mandatory field and in the alert Waze simply says “school area ahead”, the fact is that the field is there. I’ve been interacting with members of the communities in PB, RJ, and PR and found that there is no uniformity.

Basically, Wazeopedia recommends that you “use a simple name in a way that allows the school area to be identified, but differentiates it from the location of the respective school” (https://www.waze.com/discuss/t/area-escolar/383369).

Example:

 • School Name on the map (area/point): Evo Colégio e Curso

In the school area’s general tab, in the school name field, can I use Colégio Evo or Escola Evo?

Please share your thoughts.

You can even just put Evo… currently it’s only used for school area identification and isn’t displayed in the app.
Feel free to choose the format you find most appropriate.

@alemenezes Thanks! If I want to name it as shown below, is that okay?

 • In the school name field: Área Escolar Colégio Evo

I think this freedom for the editor is good, but in this case, where the field isn’t mandatory and the app won’t use the name for the alert, it could become a “lawless land” / anarchy , since everyone will just put whatever they want, don’t you think? I believe there should be some minimum standard, as the purpose of this name field is basically to differentiate between school areas that are close to each other. Therefore, I think it should be mandatory, but with some minimum standardization (a simplified school name would work well), or the field should be removed.

Yes, you can. The thing is, this field currently doesn’t do anything; it’s just so that if someone from the staff ever pulls a report, a name shows up as a reference. There are no plans for anything to appear in the app.

Wonderful!!!

Good morning!

The text says “School name”, so I don’t see a problem with including the school’s name.

As @alemenezes said: “today it only serves to identify the school area”

Best regards.

Not at all, just use common sense.

Too simple, right? lol

In short, I’ll just leave it alone. lol

Cheers

@alemenezes, @PatrickBLopes, @denysdgcf All good, that cleared it up. I just wanted to refine the topic a little bit to completely eliminate any doubts and avoid mistakes. Thanks.

Forgive me for following up, but I’m venturing to ask one more question to clear up a doubt that arose while adding a school area a moment ago, as I’m carefully practicing with the L4 features.

So, if one or more sides of the school (wall/fence) have no entrance (door/gate), meaning no passage for people or cars [as in the image below], does the school area need to be there?

@ivaldonm prioritize signage; if there isn’t any, simply cover the segments where drivers need to pay extra attention due to pedestrian activity.

@daviaraujo93 that’s exactly what you mentioned! Following Waze’s principle of simplicity, I understand that in these cases (like in the image I posted above) there shouldn’t be a school area there.

I’ve been discussing with @marxmr, who has been doing a great job with these additions here in PB, about the fact that the school area polygon kind of locks/blocks the segments it covers, making editing difficult. Therefore, the less extensive it is — as long as it fulfills its purpose — the better it will be.
