Areas that need work

Has anyone got any areas that need work? I know there’s a quite a few roads and stuff missing, but trying to focus my effort to areas that people actually use, rather than building out small towns etc.

Hi Noodlesnz.

I don’t have any specific requests, but I travel to Northland quite frequently so I thought I would post the places I plan to map progressively up until Xmas with your post:

SH10 up to Kaio (map currently ends where SH10 starts)
Kerikeri township
Kawakawa
Morewa
Waipapa
Kaio
Mangawhai
Whangaroa Harbour

And as I get the chance:
Paihia
Opua
Russell
Bits and bobs of Whangarei, but looks like someone is active there already.

I head up once a month, so I plan to have the first section complete by Xmas. They aint big towns, but are rather touristy.

Let me know when you’ve driven a new area and I’ll do some work on it. It’s sometimes easier to drive the roads first and then edit the maps.

Cheers mate.

I asked the question in the general area, but I’ll ask you too:

When I’m in a completely unmapped area, is it best to just leave the steamroller on even when I’m doubling over roads already “rolled”?

I’ve done the odd road in AKL, and been careful to turn it on and off right at the junction of existing roads.

I don’t want to go warpathing around a complete town only to find I’ve created more work than I should have on the mapping end by creating a tangle of duplicate road sections.

I can’t see a problem with leaving the road recorder on in new areas. It may create a bit of a mess, but it’s not hard to clean it up

I just went up from Auckland all the way up to Paihia and mapped around there all the way up, and around as well as up to Kerikeri and a little past. This was in the past weekend. I can’t see it on my map yet, but it should be there soon! Hope that helps!

Thanks Kirsty. I saw your routes show up on the map, so I’ve done some work and all your roads should show up in a couple of days.

The New SH20 across puhinui rd/roscommon needs a lot of works.
Lots of “6” errors making it unusable.

There is a “3” error (Road in Road) just under K road.
I don’t see it, so I’ll leave it to an expert.

The junction has a “999” error. I’ve looked at that until my eyes crossed and don’t see what its complaining about.

A fresh pair of eyes would help.

Something useful from the govt.

The right hand section of Hibiscus Coast Highway here does not exist. The left hand section, and unnamed section above it are the true location.

Map error 999 is a bug with no known cause. Ignore them all.

Fixed. Fodder did fantastic work, starting building Auckland map from scratch. But I was almost tempted to buy him a more accurate GPS.

Thanks for reporting this.

This doesn’t route.
I’ll have a go at it next week if Wayne doesn’t beat me to it.

It’s pretty hairy.

I did check the connectivity on all the roads that I corrected the layout and it was all good. I didn’t check the entire route although it was all correct when I checked it months ago.

It shouldn’t be hard to fix. Routing from where to where does not work?

Found and fixed the problem. No connectivity past Fowler Access Road. Now to wait for the next Livemap update. Must be soon - 5 days…

Opps, didn’t notice we could change subjects like that. Well fixed a stupid connectivity problem on the Hibiscus Coast Highway. So bonus there.

As for Strand to NW16…shaffs007 and wordshy kindly recorded new roads, with hideously inaccurate GPS right across the junctions.

But once more andrew-hyspecs, after destroying the SH1 junction at Manukau City has down the same here. He doesn’t seem to know anything about conectivity. Someone more diplomatic than me should talk to him. He does great work recording new roads. But he never conects them properly, even though he edits the map. And he should leave working junctions alone.

Noticed this a couple of days ago and sighed heavily.

There. Should be all fixed now.

Users should have to complete a short training course before being allowed to edit on cartouche. It wouldn’t take long to educate people on connectivity, junctions etc. I wonder if we can do a mass mail out to NZ wazers and try to teach them.

It’s all a learning process though, when I started out I didn’t know anything about connectivity and it wasn’t until I completed most of the north shore that I realized that none of my junctions had all turns enabled and most of my roads were unconnected.

At the moment I’m trying to be hands off with editing and let other users learn from their mistakes without me jumping in and fixing it for them, as I edit the whole North Island it’s hard to find mistakes in an area that large.

I’m a westy, so I haven’t had to deal with andrew-hyspecs.
I have had plenty of practice cleaning up after runningbeast.

I sent him a long a detailed and friendly PM about how to edit properly.
However those are only avail to people who actually log and pay attention.
There is no evidence that he does/has every done.

After a while you get used to it.
