Bethesda - Huntington Parkway is the right road; not Glenwood Rd

To drive from Old Georgetown Rd to Bradley Blvd (and vice-versa) drivers should take Huntington Parkway - that’s the faster, easier road.
Currently, Waze sends vehicles down Glenwood Rd, which is a much narrower, residential street.

See attached map - I highlighted in blue Huntington Parkway. Map - Bradely-Old Georgetown RD.JPG

Can this be corrected?

Hi, thanks for your message.

The Waze routing server chooses the fastest route (unless you change settings in the app to avoid certain routes). I can confirm Huntington Pkwy is already set up as a Primary Road in Waze, based on the functional classification set by MD DOT that this road is a collector. Huntington Pkwy is already favored by the routing server.

I just checked the current routes being offered in the Waze app between Old Georgetown Rd and Bradley Blvd, and here is what I found:

  1. Old Georgetown Rd northbound, south of Maple Ridge Rd, to Bradley Blvd or Wilson Ln: Huntington Pkwy is the preferred route in both directions. If the route starts further south, coming from Battery Ln, the route offered is Old G to Huntington. If the route starts on Old G headed north, starting south of Battery Ln, the route offered is Battery Ln to Bradley.
  2. Old Georgetown Rd southbound, coming from Suburban Hospital: if the route starts before Greentree, headed south, going to Bradley or Wilson, the route offered is Old G to Roosevelt, not Glenwood.

These are public roads. As mapping volunteers, we can’t control individual routes offered by the Waze routing server. If there are statutory Do Not Enter signs or No Left Turn signs during certain hours, we will always add those rules to the Waze map. But without any official signed restrictions (with county regulated signage) then we can’t arbitrarily restrict thru traffic or turns. After all, people who live in these neighborhoods, or work there, or make deliveries there, they need to be able to get to and from all addresses on public streets.
