Boom gates open at certain times

Some boom gates stay open at certain times during peek hours in certain areas i.e. allowing traffic to pass trough without stopping. How should this be defined? The boomed of section is currently defined as street - private road - street. But this prevent routing trough the boomed of area when all the gates are open in peek hour traffic.

I don’t thing using timed turning restrictions is an option as resident (or visitors) can continue to use the boom gate during of-peak hours.

Any suggestions on how to handle this situation?

Hi PDreyer,

You’ve got two options here - time base turn restrictions or segment based restrictions. I find that using the segment option works better so you don’t miss any turns.

A couple of things to take note of - the times you set are the restricted times. i.e. when traffic is not allowed. Typically this is something like 18h00 to 06h00 the next day. There was some talk about what the internal roads should be but I don’t think a consensus was ever reached. The convention of street/private/street is no longer required if segment restrictions are correctly implemented.

One last thing to consider: the restrictions need to be defined for the general public. It’s no good if a resident has access through a gate when others don’t - that will likely result in URs galore.

If you need specific advice post a permalink so we can have a look at the specifics.

Hope that helps

I found a work-around that seems to work well.
