Boston, MA, Unlock request of L5 segments

Waze has id’d one turn issue at the McDonald in this section. But there are many incorrect left turn restrictions marked on this section of Soldier Field road that are not real; the divided road ends to the east.). I’d try to describe it but its a long list that includes all of the store entrances and bad parking lot road flow.

I could not get a permalink for all sections, there seemed to be a few too many, so please unlock the highlighted segments plus the ones in between.

I’m level 1, I’m happy to edit tonight if you want to re-lock tonight.

I’ll PM harling right now about this - he usually have a reason for locking things like this.

The other issue is that all those small parking lots probably should not be mapped in the first place, but like I said, harling may have left those there on purpose…

Soldiers Field Road is locked because it is one of those roads that has a habit of splitting itself if left unattended.

As for turn restrictions: left turns into & out of those parking lot entrances might be legal, but I question whether it would be wise for Waze to direct people to make those turns. We’re talking about stopping in what is supposed to be the “passing lane” of a road that can be very busy, and then crossing two lanes of oncoming traffic, in order to enter a parking lot; Or likewise, to cross two lanes of traffic and then merge into the “passing lane” of a busy road. One or two people might have made left turns here during off-peak hours, but during commute hours (i.e., when most Wazers are driving), those turns would be treacherous. IMO it would be better for Waze to find routes that use only right turns for these lots, by restricting left turns.

It’s also worth noting that there are no (human-generated) Update Requests complaining that left turns should be allowed, only a (computer-generated) Map Problem. That suggests that actual drivers in the area do not consider it a flaw/inconvenience that Waze does not recommend left turns here. If someone who commutes along that road on a daily basis tells me that left turns along that stretch of road are commonplace, I would be persuaded to enable the turns.

This road is part of my commute once a week for the last ten years. I may have turned into that liquor store once or twice and made another left out of the lot to continue home :).

The left is not as bad as it might seem, there are lights east and west of that stretch that makes for some natural breaks.

That’s good enough for me. The turns are enabled. Cheers!
